Square Enix announced a demo for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be available tomorrow, January 7th. Good news for players – you can carry your progress from the demo into the full game when it releases next month, letting you continue your adventure without starting over.
We don’t yet know exactly how much of the Dragon Quest VII Reimagined demo you can explore. But Square Enix has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that players who try the demo will receive Maribel’s Day Off Dress in the complete game.
Try the free demo of DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined starting January 7th on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam! If you play the demo, you can continue your game when the full version launches on February 5, 2026. ⚔️

For the second month running, Square Enix has released a demo for a major role-playing game. Last month, players got a chance to try out a demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, and the complete game is coming out later this month.
As a big Dragon Quest fan, I’m really excited about Dragon Quest VII Reimagined! The original came out way back in 2000, and while I loved it, it could be a bit of a grind. It actually got a 3DS remake in 2013, so this is the second time they’ve updated the game. From what I’ve heard, Square Enix is really trying to fix those slower parts this time around. The director has hinted they want to get you into the adventure much faster, and this demo should give us a good look at how they’re doing that!
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (including the new Switch 2), and Xbox Series X|S on February 5th. You can pre-order the game now and receive bonus items. This year also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series.
