Tennis pro begs umpire for bathroom break to avoid “sh*tting on court”

Arthur Gea, a French player who received a wildcard entry, recently played in the French Open for the first time. However, it’s not a shot he made on the court that’s getting attention – it’s something else that’s gone viral.

During her match against Karen Khachanov, who was ranked 13th, Gea had to ask the umpire for an urgent bathroom break while she was behind 4-2 in the first set.

In professional tennis, players are only allowed to use the restroom between sets. Khachanov objected to the wait, but the umpire, Gea, wouldn’t allow him to postpone the match.

Gea pleads with officials before its too late

During the live broadcast on TNT Sports, Gea approached the umpire and explicitly stated his intention to defecate on the court, using offensive language.

He quickly followed that up with a more detailed request in French, urgently explaining he needed to use the bathroom, stating, “I have diarrhea and can’t hold it in any longer. I’m about to have an accident.”

So, the ref originally said no way, but I kept pushing it. Finally, they brought in a tournament doctor who checked me out and let me go because of a medical thing. Basically, I got a special pass to leave!

He was given medicine to settle his stomach before returning to court.

After the match, Gea explained he’d woken up feeling very unwell that morning, and the heat at Roland Garros had made his condition much worse.

Although he played competitively in the first two sets, Gea’s physical condition deteriorated, and he ultimately lost to Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-0.

Honestly, it was a huge challenge. I was dealing with some health issues, which made things tough physically, but looking back, I think my first set and the final one were really strong. It was just incredibly difficult to keep that high level of performance going throughout.

It’s not unusual to hear about bathroom-related issues becoming public. Just last month, a new type of gummy worm from Trader Joe’s caused so many customers digestive problems that store staff had to warn people before they purchased them.
