Prime Video‘s new R-rated spy thriller goes on a globe-trotting, successful mission.
Prime Video has a new exciting movie thanks to a popular TV show making a comeback in movie form after a three-year break. This comes right after the conclusion of Prime Video’s biggest series, The Boys, and the successful return of the spy thriller Citadel. Now, another one of the streamer’s hit spy shows is climbing the charts, quickly becoming one of the most-watched titles globally.
According to FlixPatrol, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War quickly became the most popular movie on Prime Video around the world. The film, which premiered on Wednesday, May 20th, immediately jumped to the top spot, pushing the previous number one movie, No Place to Be Single, down to second place. It’s also performing better than other films like Crime 101, Return to Silent Hill, and Balls Up. This marks John Krasinski’s debut as a director in the Jack Ryan franchise.
This film marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Jack Ryan universe, following the conclusion of the four-season series in 2023. John Krasinski reprises his role as Jack Ryan, and he’s called back into action three years later by Wendell Pierce, who returns as James Greer. Together, Jack and his team must quickly stop a secret black ops group from carrying out terrorist attacks. The cast also features familiar faces like Michael Kelly and Sienna Miller, alongside other new additions.
Just one day after its release on Prime Video, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is currently popular in 50 countries around the world. In fact, it’s the most-watched movie on Prime Video in 43 of those countries, including major markets like Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the UK, and the United States. Here in the US, it’s outperforming other popular films like Despicable Me 4, The Equalizer, and No Place to Be Single.
Despite receiving poor reviews – making it the lowest-rated film in the Jack Ryan series – Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War has become a hit on Prime Video. Currently, the film has a 45% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (an improvement from its initial 36%), and a slightly higher 52% audience score. It’s unclear if Ghost War will get a sequel, or if the original Jack Ryan series will be renewed for another season.
