With more Emily Henry novels being made into movies, fans are increasingly invested in how those adaptations turn out. There’s already been a lot of discussion about the casting for the upcoming film, Beach Read, but Henry says she’s trying to stay relaxed about it. “I have to step back and let the process happen,” she told Today this morning. “This story belongs to the readers, to me, but also to the filmmakers and the studio, and I’m excited to see their vision come to life.” Some fans expressed disappointment with the casting of Patrick Schwarzenegger as Gus Everett, using the hashtag #NotMyGus to share their concerns that he doesn’t match their image of the character. Phoebe Dynevor will star alongside Schwarzenegger as January Andrews.
Despite some negative reactions, Henry is confident the team adapting her book will do a great job. She particularly praised writer-director Yulin Kuang, saying she’s incredibly talented. Henry also mentioned she’s been receiving exciting updates about the cast and crew, though she can’t share those details publicly just yet, and filming is about to begin.
