Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is coming back for more.
Netflix has picked up a second season of the animated Stranger Things spin-off, and it’s coming this fall. The Hollywood Reporter recently interviewed showrunner Eric Nobles about the renewal and what fans can expect, especially after the first season received mixed reviews. In fact, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 earned the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores in the franchise, with critics giving it a 63% rating and audiences a 54%.
Even though Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 introduces a different style, new faces, and a fresh perspective to the world of Hawkins, it felt like a welcome change after the divisive fifth season finale of the original Stranger Things. When questioned about the potential length of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, Nobles explained that:
I’ve got a number in my head – a good idea of how long this story should be, and honestly, I’m excited! I don’t want to drag things out unnecessarily, though. It’s hard to be specific right now, but I have a strong creative vision for how we introduce Nikki Baxter – what her absence means and how it impacts everyone. It’s tricky because, technically, she doesn’t really fit into the established timeline. This whole thing really came together after the Duffers were already deep into post-production on season four. What I can tell you is I completely understand the weight of getting this ending right. I’m focused on showing how the kids deal with everything, how they grow, and how it all ties back to season three – including why they’ve never talked about Nikki before.
I can’t promise it’ll be perfect, but my team and I are giving it our all. It’s impossible to please everyone, but we’re confident we’ll deliver a great experience with ‘Tales From ‘85’.
The recent Stranger Things story, Tales from ’85, featured a new character named Nikki Baxter, voiced by Odessa A’zion. When asked about adding more characters to the show, creator Shawn Levy said he feels Nikki and the previously introduced bullies, Jeff and Charlie, are enough for now, and they’ll likely return in future stories. However, he also revealed that season 2 will take viewers to some brand new locations.
