The franchise is set to have a fantastic 60th anniversary, thanks to IDW Publishing.
I’m so excited! My favorite indie publisher just announced their next big project: the Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special! It’s going to be an anthology with over six stories, and they’ve got some amazing, award-winning creators working on it. Best of all, it’s packed with stories about the classic Star Trek characters we all know and love.

IDW Publishing’s upcoming Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special celebrates the show’s debut on September 8, 1966. Star Trek revolutionized science fiction with its inspiring characters and thought-provoking stories that impacted how people viewed the world.
The announcement continues, stating that IDW is building on past successes. This seven-issue collection features stories from classic Star Trek, as well as newer series like Lower Decks, The Animated Series, Picard, and Starfleet Academy. It also includes a sneak peek at a brand-new Star Trek comic series launching in 2026. They invite fans to be a part of this exciting new chapter!
Star Trek Fans Have Plenty To Look Forward To
Fans are thrilled to see so many different eras of Star Trek revisited, but the biggest excitement is building around a sneak peek at IDW Publishing’s new Star Trek comic. Announced earlier this year with artwork by Dennis Menheere, the comic will feature Seven of Nine as the captain of the USS Enterprise.
Cantwell recently discussed the new Star Trek series, explaining that after 60 years, Star Trek has always been about imagining the future—a hopeful vision set against the vastness of space. He believes this forward-looking quality, combined with its thoughtful and multifaceted stories, is what makes Star Trek so special.
We also discussed the publisher’s plans for celebrating the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. It’s amazing to think the franchise is sixty years old! Star Trek has always been about optimism, exploring new ideas, and the idea that people can achieve more when they work together. Being able to contribute to that legacy at IDW feels especially important right now.
As a huge Star Trek fan, I was so excited to hear Antos say that in 2026, the comics aren’t just going to be celebrating the past – they’re going to add to the story! He said they’ll keep exploring those big themes like understanding others, venturing into the unknown, and imagining the future we want to create. He even said being involved in that feels like a real honor, and honestly, I totally get why! It’s awesome to think the comics will help keep that spirit of Star Trek alive.
Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special from IDW Publishing goes on sale on Sept. 2.
