Viewership numbers are down for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, and a recent report suggests the drop is around 50% compared to the first season. This significant decrease could potentially lead to the show being canceled.
Luminate, a data company, was the first to release these viewership figures, sharing them with ComicBook. So far, Disney+ and Marvel Studios haven’t publicly announced any official numbers for Daredevil: Born Again.
What Are Daredevil: Born Again Season 2‘s Disney+ Ratings?
Luminate has released viewership data for the first five episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. These episodes have received 4.5 million views, totaling 10.867 million hours and 652 million minutes of watch time. For comparison, the first five episodes of Season 1 achieved 8.357 million views, 24 million hours, and 1.44 billion minutes watched within the same timeframe. This indicates a roughly 46% decrease in views and a more than 54% drop in total hours watched for the new season.
The recent viewership numbers for Daredevil: Born Again are concerning, particularly now when streaming services are cutting costs and canceling underperforming shows. However, it’s unlikely the show will be canceled right away, so fans can probably breathe a little easier.
Why Did Daredevil: Born Again’s Ratings Drop In Season 2 on Disney+?
Despite positive reviews and fan reception, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again isn’t performing strongly in terms of viewership. While critics and audiences generally enjoy the show – its Rotten Tomatoes score is up three points from season one, and 88% of viewers gave it a positive rating (a 10-point increase) – it seems ratings aren’t reflecting that enthusiasm.
What caused the decline? It’s hard to say for sure, but there are a few possibilities. One likely reason is growing fan disappointment with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Another could be a recent project that confused or alienated viewers who weren’t familiar with changes happening behind the scenes.
Maybe the issues with Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 stem from its content. It’s arguably one of the most thematically complex releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, and perhaps audiences used to more lighthearted superhero stories weren’t interested in such a demanding show.
The new Daredevil: Born Again series shares some similarities with Andor, the Star Wars show. Both were praised by critics and viewers who watched them, and both delved into more serious themes than other shows from Disney. However, neither series became a massive mainstream hit. While Andor was able to complete its planned story, it required some changes to how it was made to do so.
It’s possible Daredevil: Born Again could face similar issues. If so, fans are hoping the creative team has enough time to rework the story, especially since Season 3 is already being filmed.
A new episode of Daredevil: Born Again debuts tonight on Disney+.
