One of Christian Bale‘s biggest hit thrillers is coming to streaming soon.
As a film buff, I’ve always been captivated by Christian Bale’s incredible range. He really burst onto the scene with his unforgettable, and frankly terrifying, performance as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Over the years, he’s become one of my favorites, and it’s amazing to see the consistently high quality of his work. He’s been nominated for an Oscar four times – he actually won Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter – and has collaborated with some seriously impressive directors. I’m talking about Christopher Nolan – the Dark Knight trilogy is phenomenal – plus Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short), Terrence Malick (Knight of Cups), James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma), Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder), and even Ridley Scott (Exodus: Gods and Kings). It’s a pretty stellar filmography, honestly.
Hulu will be adding Christian Bale’s 2006 thriller, The Prestige, to its streaming library next week. The film follows Bale and Hugh Jackman as competing magicians in 1890s London. Critics generally liked it, giving it a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences loved it even more, with a 92% score. It was also a box office hit, earning $109 million globally on a $40 million budget. This makes it the fourth highest-rated Nolan film based on audience scores, following Memento, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight (all tied at 94%).
Hulu will start streaming the movie The Prestige on May 1st. Currently, it’s not available for free on any streaming services like Netflix or Disney+, but you can rent it online for around $3.99.
Christian Bale’s film The Prestige is now available on Hulu at a good moment, as he’s recovering from the disappointing box office performance of his recent movie, The Bride!. That film, a new take on The Bride of Frankenstein directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, only earned $24 million despite costing around $80 million to make. The Bride! was Bale’s first acting role in four years, following the 2022 mystery thriller The Pale Blue Eye.
With The Prestige now available on streaming, it’s a good time to remember Christian Bale’s ability to carry a hit film – something that could boost audience excitement for his next role. He’s starring in Madden, a biopic about football legend John Madden, directed by David O. Russell, a frequent collaborator. Bale plays Al Davis, the general manager of the Oakland Raiders, alongside Nicolas Cage as John Madden. The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, and John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, the founder of Electronic Arts.
If Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige becomes popular on streaming again in 2026, it could lead to renewed interest in other films starring Christian Bale. Although Bale doesn’t have many projects currently planned, he’s confirmed to be in Michael Mann’s upcoming Heat 2. Building excitement around Heat 2 could significantly benefit the film and help it finally come to fruition.
