Okay, Marvel fans, it’s looking like a seriously good year! After a few projects that didn’t quite land, they’ve got two surefire hits coming our way. Everyone, even those who only see a movie once a year, will probably rush out to see Avengers: Doomsday and its wild multiverse antics. But before that, get ready for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to absolutely own the summer box office, hitting theaters July 31st. The only film that might give it a run for its money? Surprisingly, it’s Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and get this – it also stars Tom Holland and Zendaya! Talk about a busy year for those two.
It’s no surprise that another Spider-Man movie is expected to be a success, but the trailer for Brand New Day has generated a lot of excitement. The film directly addresses the difficult consequences of No Way Home‘s ending and features a large cast of interesting supporting characters—though it’s possible there are too many. Director Destin Daniel Cretton seems to be bringing a fresh perspective to Spider-Man at this challenging point in his journey, and his previous work on Shang-Chi and Wonder Man suggests he’s a reliable choice for the MCU.
With two months still to go until the next Spider-Man movie hits theaters, the wait feels endless. But if you can’t wait until late July, Marvel is releasing a special presentation on Disney+ that will serve as a preview of sorts for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Punisher: One Last Kill Drops On Disney+ On May 12
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again recently concluded with a fantastic finale. The season was consistently strong, delivering a satisfying confrontation between Daredevil and Kingpin, both in a physical battle and a courtroom showdown. While the beginning had less action, the final episode packed a punch with intense fighting and chaos. The biggest disappointment, however, was the lack of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle throughout the season.
Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the Punisher was a highlight of the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, which made it frustrating when he wasn’t featured as much in season two. Now, fans are getting a special treat: a one-hour special entirely focused on the Punisher. Titled The Punisher: One Last Kill, it will be released by Marvel Studios on May 12th. Bernthal didn’t just reprise his role – he also co-wrote the script with the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green, making this a very personal project for him. While many hope the cancelled Netflix Punisher series will eventually get a similar revival to Born Again, this special is a fantastic substitute for now.
The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, will appear in a supporting role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, as hinted at in the trailer. He’ll team up with Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to fight crime in a family-friendly, action-packed adventure. We might get a preview of this team-up in the special One Last Kill, which seems to be setting the stage for the events of Brand New Day.
One Last Kill Will Lead Into Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The story of One Last Kill happens during the events of Born Again season 2, while Brand New Day takes place afterward – we know this because a character from Born Again appears in the Brand New Day trailer. Therefore, One Last Kill must occur before Brand New Day.
This special focuses on Frank’s attempt to move past his anger and the violent persona of the Punisher, before circumstances pull him back into his life as a vigilante. It could potentially show how he eventually teams up with Peter Parker, as seen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
