We think Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is among FromSoftware’s best games, and the new anime adaptation looks promising.
The anime Sekiro: No Defeat will premiere in Japan with a three-week run in theaters.
It begins on September 4th, 2026. Currently, a release date for regions outside of the initial launch hasn’t been announced, but it will be available worldwide through Crunchyroll.
The key visual for the anime has been released:
The Sekiro: No Defeat book retells the game’s story, but focuses more on the characters and the world around them.
Here’s the official synopsis to give you an idea of what to expect:
Japan is divided into warring states. At its heart is Ashina, a land steeped in history and spiritual power. Twenty years after a violent takeover by the legendary warrior Isshin Ashina brought peace, a dangerous new enemy rises from within the government – the Interior Ministry. Isshin’s grandson, Genichiro, will do anything to defend their land, even resort to dark magic. The fate of Ashina rests on the shoulders of a young, captured boy – the Divine Heir – and his unwavering bodyguard, a skilled ninja known as Sekiro.
This tale follows a nobleman and his loyal servant as they embark on a journey to save their country from falling into chaos.
A trailer was recently released, and it’s visually impressive – we really like the overall style.
We anticipate Crunchyroll will release the show shortly after it hits theaters in Japan, and we’re hoping for an official announcement soon.
