What is Omoggle? The AI face-rating platform taking over Twitch

Omoggle is a new platform quickly gaining popularity on Twitch. It uses artificial intelligence to turn casual webcam conversations into a game where viewers rank people’s faces.

The name combines ‘Omegle,’ a former website for random video chats, and ‘mogging,’ a term used online – particularly within the ‘looksmaxxing’ community – to describe powerfully outshining someone in terms of physical attractiveness.

The person who wins is called the “Mogger,” and the person who loses is called the “Mogged.” An AI judges both faces and gives them a score from 0 to 10 before deciding the winner.

What is Omoggle?

Omoggle connects two people on webcam and uses artificial intelligence to analyze their faces. It measures things like facial symmetry and jawline shape, then declares one person the ‘winner’ and the other the ‘loser’ based on these measurements.

This platform ranks users using a system inspired by the looksmaxxing community, based on ELO scores. The ranks, from lowest to highest, are Molecule, Sub3, Low Tier Normie (LTN), Mid Tier Normie (MTN), High Tier Normie (HTN), Chadlite, Chad, and Slayer.

Currently, the top two ranking levels have no players. The best player in the world has a score of 3,210 ELO, which puts them in the ‘Chadlite’ tier, but they still need 3,501 ELO to reach the ‘Chad’ tier.

The problem lies with the AI powering the game. It’s known for being unreliable and can be easily disrupted by things like camera views, how close players are to each other, and even objects held by players. This means even skilled players can be unfairly defeated by someone simply holding an item in front of them.

Asmongold participated in the Omoggle competition, achieving 3 wins and 4 losses. He commented that being able to create impressive character appearances (‘mogging’) at his age (35) would be a significant accomplishment, and even a single win would be a great result.

xQc lost six games in a row, and his final loss was particularly frustrating. His opponent not only won, but also spent the whole match taunting him on camera, ultimately leading to a very public and memorable outburst from xQc.

Asmongold briefly benefited from a mistake in the game’s matchmaking system, winning a match unfairly. However, he was then matched with a very young player, a ten-year-old, and lost to them.

This trend is similar to others popular on Twitch, where streamers create challenges. For example, last year, creators like xQc, StableRonaldo, and JasontheWeen competed to see who could do the most repetitions of an exercise in 20 seconds, using their webcam to track their speed.
