Be warned, this contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of Tracker! Instead of delivering a powerful, potentially show-altering emotional moment, Tracker avoids taking a big risk. With the finale airing, CBS has confirmed its TV lineup for the 2025-2026 season, and Tracker remains a key part of it as the network’s most-watched show. To recap, the winter finale ended with Justin Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw, involved in a car accident. The show picks up immediately after that event.
As a big fan of Tracker, I was really hooked by the midseason finale of season 3. It brought Keaton back, and this time he was the one needing help. He’s retired from the police force now, but he was desperate to find out what happened to his old partner. Naturally, he turned to Colter – the guy’s a master tracker, so it made perfect sense. But things quickly got way more complicated than anyone expected. The season ended on a huge cliffhanger in 2025, leaving us wondering if Keaton would even survive, and the new episode, “Fallout,” seems to directly deal with that possibility.
Tracker Season 3, Episode 10 Chickens Out Of Killing Keaton
The first episode of Tracker‘s 2026 season opens with the fallout from a car crash, leaving viewers uncertain about Keaton’s fate due to his severe injuries. He was already seriously hurt before the crash, making his chances of survival lower than Colter’s. However, the season finale, “Fallout,” confirms that Keaton did survive.
I was so relieved to see Keaton pull through after everything he went through! It’s awesome because it means Brent Sexton could come back as his character – he’s a real fan favorite. While Colter has Reenie and Randy helping out, they’re usually working from a distance, so he’s mostly on his own dealing with things. Keaton is one of the only people Colter can truly rely on when he needs backup, and that’s a huge deal.
As a big fan of Tracker, I think Keaton’s death would have really hit hard. It would have been a huge shock, and a powerful reminder of just how risky Colter’s job is. What makes it different from Ashton Shaw’s death is that we, the audience, had actually gotten to know Keaton. We’d connected with him, so losing him would have felt genuinely impactful. While Ashton’s death drives a lot of the story, it didn’t carry the same emotional weight because we hadn’t really had a chance to form a bond with his character.
How Keaton’s Death Could Have Revitalized The Emotional Aspect Of Tracker
Unlike most crime shows, Tracker heavily relies on its main character, Colter. His job makes it hard for him to form lasting relationships. As the third season ends, it hasn’t felt like Colter is ever truly at risk, because the show wouldn’t work without him. To create real tension, the show needs to put the people he cares about, like Keaton, in danger. Killing off Colter would have significantly raised the stakes for the series.
I’ve been a big fan of Tracker, and I really love how Colter always comes through as the hero. But as the show looks ahead to season four, I think it’s time to see a little more depth from him. Honestly, seeing him truly mourn Keaton would have been amazing – it would have opened up so many possibilities for more personal and compelling stories. It would just make the show even better, and make me root for him on a whole new level moving forward.
