After almost ten years, the popular Netflix series Stranger Things is concluding this week. While many fans have speculated about characters dying, the final episode won’t be a shocking and violent free-for-all like the ending of Game of Thrones.
According to co-creator Matt Duffer, viewers shouldn’t expect any shocking or devastating twists like the Red Wedding from ‘Game of Thrones.’ He told The Hollywood Reporter that ‘Stranger Things’ isn’t aiming for that kind of impact.

Stranger Things Season 5 finale release date and time
The final episodes of Stranger Things Season 5, including the series finale, will be available on Netflix December 31, 2025, at 5pm Pacific Time / 8pm Eastern Time. That means fans can ring in the New Year with the conclusion of the show!
For viewers in the UK, the episode airs at 1 AM on New Year’s Day, so you’ll need to pace yourself with New Year’s celebrations if you want to watch it right away.

What happened at the end of Volume 2?
In the final moments of Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 2, Vecna—also known as Henry Creel—put the children he’d kidnapped into a trance, beginning the last stage of his plan.
Vecna plans to remake the world by using the children he kidnapped, believing they are ideal hosts for his control. He intends to use them to merge Hawkins with a terrifying dimension known as ‘The Abyss.’
This requires a huge amount of power, and that’s what the children held captive in the Creel House on Camazotz are providing – they’re being exploited by Vecna’s strong spell at the end of episode seven.
Steve Harrington proposes a risky plan to defeat Vecna: let him connect our world with the Upside Down. Once the radio tower appears through the opening, Eleven can use her powers to stop him.
Steve explained that she meditates and goes inside Vecna’s mind to defeat him. This allows the heroes of Hawkins to enter The Abyss, break the spell, and save the children and the town.
