The Real Housewives of Rhode Island Season-Finale Recap: Blocking Out The Haters

I really appreciate that this show kept its cast trips local, within Rhode Island – it’s a small state, only about 1,034 square miles! They only ventured outside the state once, to South Boston, but I never felt like we missed out on a grand, elaborate trip. Honestly, I’m happy for the cast to stay within Rhode Island for a while longer – I think there’s enough to explore for another season and a half! And it’s great to hear Block Island, a true island unlike Rhode Island itself, called the Caribbean of New England.

The season finale focuses on mending relationships, and it starts positively with Liz and Jo-Ellen having an honest conversation on the beach. They acknowledge their friendship is real, despite a breach of trust, and want to find a way forward. Jo-Ellen hopes they can simply return to how things were before, and surprisingly, Liz agrees to move past the conflict, ending their discussion with a hug and a playful moment. It seems Block Island has a special effect on people! However, it remains to be seen if this positive energy will extend to Jo-Ellen and Rulla, as Rulla still questions the sincerity of Jo-Ellen’s intentions.

While peace negotiations are happening around the island, Alicia continues to brighten my day with her humor. She playfully mocks Billy as he emerges from the ocean, saying he looks like he’s trying to imitate a scene from Baywatch, constantly struggling with his pants falling down. Later, recounting Rulla and Brian’s reaction to a video at Jo-Ellen’s party, Alicia makes a crude joke about someone being on the verge of an outburst. Even Jo-Ellen had to point out that Alicia’s phrasing had a very explicit meaning.

I really adore Alicia and Billy as a couple, even though they’ve had a few hurdles to overcome – like getting Alicia’s name on the house. It’s so sweet to see how she makes him laugh! I was especially happy to see Billy recreate their proposal from nine years ago, which Alicia admitted wasn’t very romantic the first time. He really made up for it this time with roses, candles, and a proper proposal on one knee – it was a bit awkward, but incredibly touching and clearly meant the world to Alicia. She told him, “I feel like we’re meant to be together. I wouldn’t have stayed with you this long, because you know how guys like me are, honestly.” It’s like a second engagement – a first of its kind – and it makes me hopeful we’ll see a big wedding next season!

Jo-Ellen tries to have a private talk with Rulla about the video showing Brian cheating, hoping they can finally resolve the issue and move forward. She explains she’s simply providing the evidence Rulla requested. However, Rulla surprisingly decides she doesn’t want to watch it, fearing it will cause her more pain and believing the timestamp could be easily faked – despite that not being true. Rulla remains in denial, refusing to accept what’s right in front of her. She also criticizes Jo-Ellen for bringing this up at a sensitive time, referencing her recent illness with a touch of sarcasm. After finally expressing her concerns, Jo-Ellen promises to let the matter rest and won’t mention it again.

While the discussion continued upstairs, Brian was once again embarrassing himself downstairs. Gary intervened, telling him to stop accusing his wife of lying, and Brian immediately backed down, looking intimidated. He quickly confessed everything Jo-Ellen had been claiming, especially when Gary confronted him directly. When Gary shared this with Jo-Ellen, she and the rest of the group were completely shocked. After a year of investigating, Brian suddenly admitted the truth, all while Rulla was upstairs fiercely defending him.

Okay, so we’re at the last dinner of the season, and Alicia is happily recounting how she demanded another proposal – seriously, she said she deserved it! You just know that means a game is coming. Kelsey went around with a bowl of clam shells, each with a question on it, while Liz was happily munching on corn on the cob. The game was clearly meant to stir things up, as these Housewives games always are, but it started off…slowly. Jared dropped this bombshell: he loves Rhode Island. Seriously! Liz, bless her heart, immediately and rightfully called him out on what was, let’s be honest, a totally uneventful reveal.

Okay, things got real during this game. It started light enough, but then Rulla asked about the most embarrassing thing anyone’s partner has ever done – which was hilarious! Alicia deflected, thankfully, and then got hit with a question about who at the table is most likely to be two-faced. Honestly, she’d have pointed to Jo-Ellen earlier in the summer, but she seemed genuinely good with everyone now. She started explaining things, though, and got a little emotional, which led to Alicia trying to force a reconciliation that had already happened upstairs! It was awkward – Jo-Ellen was clearly annoyed. But then, surprisingly, it opened everything up and suddenly we were all talking about it. Rosie even jumped in to defend Jo-Ellen, saying the problem wasn’t her at all, but someone else sitting right there. What I love is that these women aren’t afraid to call people out directly, even Brian! Eventually Alicia shut it down with this amazing line – she said it was ‘done, done, done, put it in the ocean and it’s drowned!’ You can’t argue with that kind of finality, especially coming from someone who seems ready to build a whole business empire!

As the end credits start to appear with updates on everyone’s lives, I noticed something interesting about Bravo shows. Often, even after the finale seems to be over, there are still ten minutes left – that’s when they show what happened after filming wrapped. In this case, a month after cameras stopped rolling, Rulla’s husband, Brian, was arrested for secretly putting a tracker on her car. Because of the domestic violence charge and Rulla’s request for a no-contact order, the show needed to revisit the story, and the women got together to discuss it – but in two separate groups.

Rosie, Kelsey, and Alicia quickly went to talk to Rulla and hear her side of what happened. They found Ashley there, looking incredibly pleased with herself. True to form, Rulla minimized the situation, explaining that she’d suspected Brian was tracking her based on some things he said. She took her car to BMW to be checked, and they advised her to go to the police, who then arrested him. She still doesn’t understand why he did it – he avoids giving a straight answer – so she encouraged him to get help to figure out what’s been going on with his strange behavior lately. When Kelsey cautiously asked if she was at all grateful to Jo-Ellen given these events, Rulla insisted Jo-Ellen handled things poorly. She refuses to admit Jo-Ellen was right, even though it’s clear she was.

Meanwhile, while the other women are with Rulla, Jo-Ellen meets Liz to discuss everything, bringing pie and chocolate as if it’s a celebration. She’s incredibly happy and can’t stop smiling, and honestly, she deserves to feel good after dealing with that annoying guy all season. She also reveals that The Mistress was the one who bailed Brian out of jail. I haven’t been this intrigued by a character we never actually see since Big Papa, but this Mistress seems uniquely captivating and a little bit unhinged, and I can’t look away.

Despite everything, Rulla and Brian are still a couple, which is good news! They’ll both be at the reunion, and everyone will definitely want to ask them some questions. Rulla might have thought a nose job would change the subject, but we still need to talk about all the drama and excitement from this unforgettable season.
