The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap: Peach Pride

Happy Pride, Porsha! While many already knew Porsha Williams was part of the LGBTQ+ community, tonight’s episode marks her officially going public with her relationship at Culture Con. Honestly, given past moments – like her well-known comment about being attracted to someone during ‘Bolo night’ – this feels more like a confirmation than a surprise reveal. But it’s great to see Porsha openly dating a woman, especially as the show celebrates its 20th anniversary.

As a longtime fan, I’m really excited about Porsha’s storyline, and honestly, for the entire Real Housewives franchise. It might seem obvious to me and my friends – we’d be more disappointed if someone felt they couldn’t be their true self than anything else – but it’s so important to remember not everyone is as accepting. That kind of representation is really needed. It’s fantastic to see the show reflecting how much things have changed over the past twenty years. Heather Dubrow being open about trying psychedelics is another perfect example. And especially in a city like Atlanta, where, as Phaedra put it so well, people enjoy all sides of life, it feels particularly impactful.

Most of the cast reacted to Porsha’s Culture Con news similarly to how viewers did – with surprise, but also excitement. Drew hosted lunch for everyone and playfully presented a rainbow cake. The whole gathering was fun; they even jokingly pretended Ralph was communicating from the basement using Morse code, and complimented Drew on singing the national anthem. It’s clear that Porsha, Cynthia, Phaedra, Kenya, and Drew are the main personalities driving the show with their humor, personal lives, and playful banter (especially when Cynthia and Phaedra subtly shade each other in private interviews – it’s highly entertaining!). While there were still serious moments, like remembering Angela’s mother and Porsha receiving her ring back from Dennis, the overall vibe is much lighter compared to the other group. They often seem defensive and downcast—there’s always some drama with them! Their negativity, particularly with Shamea, gets so intense that Cynthia tries to mediate a serious conversation at Lake Bailey.

Cynthia is trying to understand why Shamea has been acting so strangely, and the confrontation feels like a teenager being called to the principal’s office. Cynthia starts listing the people Shamea is fighting with, and predictably, it always comes back to Porsha. Porsha joked that she should be paid for constantly being involved in everyone else’s drama, and I agree! Shamea tried to justify inviting Dennis to Gerald’s birthday, saying she’d do the same with Simon if he were around. But that just shows how much Shamea dislikes Porsha – inviting someone’s ex-husband and the father of her child is never okay, no matter what. And if she really wanted to do it “for the kids,” she should stick to supervised playdates, not include them in adult gatherings.

As Cynthia pointed out, the conflict between Porsha and Shamea goes beyond what we see on the show. However, it seems only Shamea continues to publicly express her negativity. While Porsha wants to avoid engaging with Shamea, Shamea keeps subtly hinting at her dislike, this time by telling Cynthia about a tense text conversation after the reunion. Shamea says she doesn’t want to air their private issues, but she consistently reveals enough information to portray Porsha as the one at fault and herself as the injured party. She claims she doesn’t need to be friends with Porsha, but then continues to associate with Porsha’s husband, Dennis, which seems counterproductive to her stated goal.

K. Michelle explains that Shamea contributed to her anxieties about being accepted on Bravo, suggesting these concerns stem from K. Michelle’s background in VH1 reality TV rather than any issues she has with the other women. During a lunch with Pinky, K. Michelle shared a story about going clubbing with Shamea and her mother, who surprisingly showed up looking glamorous but also spent over an hour praying for K. Michelle’s loyalty and trust. K. Michelle says Shamea revealed that her current castmates don’t want them to be friends.

We should probably take anything K. says with a bit of skepticism – she once thought a simple joke about oysters was a personal attack! However, it’s likely whoever is feeding her information is someone from the show’s cast. K. Michelle claims Shamea repeatedly tells her that nobody in Atlanta wants to be friends with her. Constantly saying things like that to someone who’s already prone to paranoia will only push them away and ironically does exactly what Shamea accuses Porsha of doing: creating distrust and hostility between groups.

K. Michelle is thinking about what Shamea did, while Kelli keeps bringing everyone down with her negativity. It seems like she’s constantly facing problems! On top of a difficult divorce and struggling businesses, Kelli claims her neighbor is stalking her, forcing her to leave her home and stay at one of Shamea’s rental properties. Seriously, what else is going on? She’s feuding with both Drew and Porsha, avoids mentioning her boyfriend, isn’t allowed to film with her children, is filing for bankruptcy, getting dental work, and even her dog’s hair dye has faded! During a confession, she was barely covered in a simple white t-shirt. Things are so rough that Phaedra is offering Kelli free legal help with her divorce – which feels like an act of sympathy, considering Phaedra is usually very careful with her money, as Shereé can attest.

Even though Shamea tries to be a good friend to Kelli, her dislike for Porsha is still obvious. When Kelli moves in with Shamea, their interactions feel loaded with hidden jabs at Porsha, and their whole friendship feels artificial. Shamea repeatedly emphasizing how grateful she is for Kelli’s friendship seemed like a pointed message to Porsha, because that was the main issue in their past relationship. It’s like that person who, after a bad breakup, quickly starts a new relationship and then constantly brags about it or uses it to show how awful their ex was. They might highlight something their ex didn’t do, and then make a show of receiving it from their new partner, posting about it online as if to prove a point. Ultimately, everything seems to come back to Porsha.

Despite ongoing tension between the Peaches and the Plums, Pinky steps up to organize a fun night out for everyone, hoping to bridge the gap. She’s surprisingly become a key player for the Plums, offering sensible advice while still trying to connect with the Peaches – and she can handle drama much better than Kelli and Shamea. Pinky throws an 80s-themed skate night, which is a welcome change from all the country-western events we’ve seen lately (it’s time to move on, just like Beyoncé!). The skate night is a great way to get everyone together, and it happens to fall on the anniversary of Angela’s mother’s death, so the group is able to support her with condolences and gifts and give her a much-needed distraction. Porsha considers the night a success because everyone focused on having fun and dancing, without getting into any arguments or discussing past conflicts. It’s a refreshing change, and exactly what viewers have been hoping for!

Peach Tea To-Go

I don’t appreciate how Shamea reacted to the news about Porsha’s relationship. When asked for her immediate thoughts on castmates in an interview, Shamea sarcastically responded with “Happy Pride” when Porsha’s name was mentioned. Porsha quickly replied with a playful “Happy Pride to you, too,” and even referenced old drama from season nine with a funny GIF of Phaedra. She then shared photos of herself with Sway, using the hashtags #WLW (women loving women) and jokingly, #Swaysexual.

It’s a little odd to me that Angela’s younger children seem to think Ahmauri’s wife is just their sister’s best friend, rather than knowing she’s married to Ahmauri. I hope the family has an open and honest talk about it soon – right now, the situation feels awkward, like someone bringing a long-term partner home for the holidays but presenting them as ‘just a friend’.

The argument between Dennis and Porsha was so unbelievable that I initially suspected it was scripted. However, Porsha’s genuine reaction to him returning her engagement ring confirmed to me that she truly loved him, and they could still be together if he hadn’t cheated and acted poorly. Unfortunately, Dennis seems unable to put his own issues aside to even maintain a friendly relationship, so it’s great to see Porsha moving forward and embracing her independence.
