Honestly, watching Pinky Cole’s business dealings is just getting more and more confusing. The financial issues were already pretty clear, but tonight really cemented it for me. While the whole ‘Meatgate‘ situation is still unfolding, Phaedra hit the nail on the head – the alleged hamburger incident is the least of Pinky’s worries. One week she’s crying in a bankruptcy lawyer’s office, and the next she’s talking about covering rent for multiple businesses. It just feels off. Shouldn’t her priority be paying the people who actually worked for her? Kelli thinks Pinky’s charitable acts during all this prove she’s amazing, but I seriously doubt the employees who supposedly made around $2 an hour would feel the same way. And to add insult to injury, they claim Pinky also took 25% of their tips! Giving back to the community is great, of course, but what about taking care of the people who depended on her for their livelihood?
Pinky is sharing the cost of her community event with the other women, asking each to purchase items like backpacks, hygiene products, and baby supplies in bulk. While they happily help, they also continue to gossip about Pinky’s diet. However, production footage reveals the rumor about Pinky eating meat was distorted. Phaedra never actually said Pinky ate meat – she only mentioned Pinky previously owning a restaurant that served meat. It turns out Kelli was the one who told Shamea she saw Pinky eating a steak. Despite this, Kelli publicly confronted Pinky and then let Phaedra take the blame for the rumor, potentially damaging Pinky’s business.
By the time the event happens, the rumors about ‘Meatgate’ have spread throughout the group. Combined with issues surrounding the Hambuglar and tension between Kelli and Porsha, the cast is already fractured before Cynthia’s trip to Dallas. Pinky directly confronts Phaedra about the rumors, leading to drama where Kelli avoids blame, while Shamea and Phaedra argue about how the story changed as it was passed around. It’s frustrating that the conversation shifted to Shamea choosing Cynthia as a godmother instead of addressing Pinky’s steak consumption and restaurant ownership directly. Kelli loses points for being insincere, and Phaedra for not fully earning her role on the show and for treating Pinky differently in person versus behind her back. Despite a ‘Maury Povich’ appearance suggesting Pinky passed a lie detector test, the ‘Meatgate’ issue likely isn’t over, as something still seems off with Pinky’s story, regardless of her dietary choices.
Pinky’s appearance on the show feels carefully planned, especially considering the contrast between her charity work and her ongoing legal and financial problems. It seems like she’s trying to present herself as a Black businesswoman dedicated to her community who simply made some errors in judgment. She’s aware of how this might look to her critics. However, the lawsuits alleging wage theft are particularly damaging, especially with the current economic climate. Her dismissive comment about being able to ‘wipe her ass with $8,000’ comes across as insensitive. Generally, legal issues on the show that directly harm individuals are met with expectations of apology and change. Issues involving government funds are often viewed more leniently. Pinky seems to understand this, as evidenced by her emotional moments with her lawyer, although her carefully constructed image occasionally slips.
It’s notable that when Derrick offers Pinky money to help her resolve her financial issues – and presumably pay back those she owes – she refuses. She insists on taking full responsibility for her own actions. This comes after Pinky finally confesses to Derrick during a workout that she’s already started the bankruptcy process. Derrick immediately asks who else knows, but instead of explaining that the producers, crew, and most of the cast are aware, Pinky simply shakes her head (a testament to the production team for capturing that moment). Derrick quickly tries to fix the situation by offering financial help, but Pinky declines, explaining she didn’t tell him sooner because she didn’t want to burden him while he’s focused on his work.
Pinky’s hesitation to accept Derrick’s help likely stems from both pride and the complicated nature of their relationship. She might not want her vegan business, which is supported by PETA, to be rescued with money he made from selling meat. Or, she may not want to owe someone who publicly boasts about controlling her. Still, I admire her determination to handle the situation herself – if I were in her shoes, I would have gladly taken the $5 million and flown to Dallas, free of debt and ready to enjoy a work trip courtesy of the production company.
Pinky could learn a thing or two from Porsha, who isn’t afraid to leverage relationships to get ahead – and honestly, that’s a good thing, especially with all the recent talk about financial troubles. I want the women on TV to be glamorous and over-the-top (which is why I’m enjoying Kelsey’s storyline), and Porsha delivers. With Simon banned from the US, Porsha has settled comfortably into his Atlanta home while selling her own property in Duluth. She insists she’s a careful planner, and taking Simon’s house was definitely part of the plan.
Porsha is creating drama again, this time by dressing up with a hired date and then inviting her ex, Dennis, over under the guise of discussing a podcast they could co-host. The podcast idea quickly fell apart, which is probably a good thing – we’re spared from seeing Dennis on camera. When Dennis arrives, he finds roses and a note saying, “I want you,” on the kitchen island. He looks worn out – it’s clear Porsha’s marriage took a toll on him – and it’s obvious he still has feelings for her. Even though he’s currently living with someone else (according to Porsha), he’s clearly still interested in her dating life. They immediately start arguing about Porsha’s past relationships, and Dennis ironically doesn’t seem to realize that he’s part of the problem.
The drama keeps escalating until Porsha cancels their podcast. Porsha and Dennis are likely to have an on-again, off-again relationship for at least the next eighteen years, and maybe even beyond (she clearly had a reason for displaying those flowers). They share a strange, undeniable connection, even if they won’t admit it, highlighted by the fact that Porsha’s previous boyfriend once lived in the same apartment as Dennis. While Dennis has since moved, simply mentioning it shows he’s still very focused on Porsha.
Okay, this episode felt a little bogged down in everyone’s personal drama – bankruptcy woes and baby daddy situations, you know? But honestly, I’m really looking forward to next week’s cast trip. The sneak peek showed a potential showdown between Pinky and Angela, and I’m already bracing myself! I’ve noticed this group really shines when they’re all together and have to deal with things as they happen, so I have a good feeling these ladies are going to bring the heat.
Peach Tea To-Go
Regarding women who exploit men financially, it’s likely Kim Zolciak is privately upset about losing her wealthy benefactor. We remember him fondly and thank him for the memorable line, “Close your legs to married men!” and many other iconic contributions.
Angela is having an amazing second season! It’s impressive how she can forgive others and move on, even while remembering how she was treated. This makes her a great Housewife because it keeps conflicts from getting old and allows her to respond effectively if anyone causes trouble again – which is great for viewers. Plus, she’s fantastic at stirring things up and keeping storylines going within the group, and I love it!
It’s pretty surprising to see Cynthia from Bravo connecting with the Maloof family, but here’s another unexpected pairing: Ava Dash highlighted a New York Slutty Vegan location on her show, Next Gen NYC. During the episode, Ava revealed the owner asked her father, Dame Dash, to take over the restaurant because she was struggling. Dame then surprisingly asked Ava’s controversial co-star, Charlie, to help get a liquor license. While this doesn’t directly involve Pinky, it’s noteworthy considering Dame Dash also recently filed for bankruptcy.
