The Boys’ Penultimate Episode Hints An Iconic Comic Scene Is About To Happen

Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Boys season 5, episode 7.

In season 5, episode 7 of The Boys, a scene hints at a major event from the original comic book potentially happening soon. The episode’s ending strongly suggests the show is heading towards its climax, with possibilities including Frenchie’s death or Homelander fully achieving his self-proclaimed ‘Godhood’.

Season 5 of The Boys needs to resolve several key plot points, but it’s set up nicely for a final showdown between the main characters and Homelander. Interestingly, the comic book version of this fight was much more contained, limited to a battle between Butcher and his enemy inside the White House. Adding another layer to the story is Black Noir, who in the original comics was revealed to be a clone of Homelander and secretly behind many of the Supes’ most terrible actions.

Although the dark, detective-style ending originally planned for The Boys isn’t likely to happen, another part of that conclusion could still occur. In season 5, episode 7, we first see Homelander relaxing in the Oval Office, establishing himself as a powerful, god-like figure and the de facto President of the United States. Immediately after, the actual President walks in, leading Homelander to ask if he truly supports him.

Okay, so in the latest episode of The Boys, things went absolutely insane. We meet Ashley’s new Supe, and she’s forced to essentially read the President’s mind – and the big reveal is he doesn’t buy into the Homelander-as-God narrative. Predictably, Homelander doesn’t take kindly to that and… well, let’s just say the President is no longer with us. This isn’t just a shocking moment, it completely flips the script for the finale. It strongly suggests the ultimate showdown between Homelander and Butcher won’t happen inside the White House, mirroring the comic book storyline. Get ready, folks, this is about to get wild.

The White House Showdown Would Be A Great Way To End The Boys

Ending The Boys with a final battle at the White House would be a fitting conclusion. The show has carefully built towards Homelander’s presidential ambition throughout season four, making a showdown there a natural and satisfying resolution for his storyline.

Simply put, the White House is an incredible place to end a story. As a world-famous symbol of American power, it would be a fitting and powerful location for the final confrontation between Homelander and Butcher.

Ultimately, this development will give The Boys the chance to more closely reflect the original comic books that inspired it. While the TV series has significantly altered the source material – developing characters with greater depth and even removing certain plot points, like the Black Noir reveal – these changes have largely benefited the show.

Despite the changes made throughout the series, it would feel right for the show to conclude as the original comic book did. Even with the differences, a climactic battle on the White House lawn would perfectly wrap up the story of The Boys.

Homelander’s Death Isn’t Really The End Of The Boys

It will be fascinating to see where The Boys goes after Homelander is defeated—or if he even is defeated. Unlike the comic books, where Homelander’s death doesn’t resolve the story, the show’s future remains uncertain. In the comics, Butcher, despite achieving his goal, becomes consumed with eliminating all Supes, even his allies. He tragically kills Frenchie, Kimiko, and MM to ensure no one can stop his plan to eradicate every Supe on Earth.

The comic book version of The Boys ends with a showdown between Hughie and Butcher, where Hughie ultimately wins and lives a quiet life with Starlight after killing Butcher. The TV series has suggested this might happen too, especially with Butcher’s creation of the Supe Virus. But lately, the show hasn’t focused much on this storyline, so it’s uncertain if it will play out the same way in the finale.

It’s still unclear if Homelander will die, which could lead Butcher to attempt to eliminate all other Supes. Because of this, the last episode of The Boys still has several major plot points to cover or alter, but a showdown at the White House seems very likely.
