Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Is a Streaming Hit

A truly excellent show that didn’t get enough attention when it first aired is now finally finding an audience. Nearly twenty years after it ended, it’s become a hit on streaming services.

The Terminator spinoff series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, remains a popular choice on the Apple TV Store, where you can rent or buy episodes. Currently, it’s the third most-downloaded show in the United States, according to FlixPatrol, trailing only Miami Vice and League of Legends: Arcane.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles Is the Most Underrated Part of the Terminator Franchise

Despite being cancelled by Fox after just two seasons seventeen years ago, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is finding success through streaming. The show picks up after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, following Sarah Connor’s efforts to stop Skynet from becoming a threat. It essentially reboots the film series, ignoring the events of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and offering a fresh direction for the franchise.

Despite receiving very positive reviews and being loved by fans, The Sarah Connor Chronicles was unexpectedly cancelled after only two seasons. Since then, it’s gained a dedicated and enthusiastic following, keeping interest alive for almost twenty years. Though the show’s storylines were never fully resolved, it remains a popular installment in the Terminator series.

What’s Next for the Terminator Franchise?

The Terminator movies haven’t been very good since the TV show The Sarah Connor Chronicles ended. The series has struggled with recent releases and now faces a difficult path forward, as plans for a new trilogy fell through.

As a huge fan of the Terminator films, I’ve been following the news about potential continuations closely. James Cameron, the original creator, has hinted at more stories, but nothing is confirmed yet. Sadly, Linda Hamilton – the iconic Sarah Connor – has said she’s definitely done with the series. Honestly, after the last few Terminator movies didn’t quite land with critics or audiences, whatever they do next has to be amazing. If it isn’t, I fear it could be the end of the road for a franchise I really love.

Even though the future of the Terminator series is uncertain, The Sarah Connor Chronicles remains a standout entry and a true cult favorite, seventeen years after it originally ended.
