ChudTheBuilder shoots man who reportedly attacked him on stream, injures self in process

Streamer ChudTheBuilder was arrested and taken to the hospital after reportedly shooting someone outside the courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Dalton Eatherly, known online as ChudTheBuilder, is a livestreamer who films himself in public places around Nashville. He’s gained notoriety for recording videos where he uses racist language towards Black people and then attempts to provoke a confrontation.

On May 13th, a shooting happened near the Montgomery County Courthouse. Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Clarksville Police Department arrived at the scene. Once the area was safe, the sheriff’s office announced there was no threat to the public.

Clarksville Now reports that the courthouse went into lockdown around 1:15 PM after someone fired shots. One person was arrested, and witnesses say two others were hurt.

ChudTheBuilder allegedly shot himself during altercation

According to District Attorney Robert Nash, Eatherly was the shooter in the incident. The report also states that Eatherly shot himself in the arm.

Eatherly was arrested and transported from the area by ambulance. The injured person was expected to be airlifted to a hospital.

Although video of the shooting hasn’t been released yet, pictures of Eatherly being carried into an ambulance on a stretcher have been shared online. A transcript of a 16-minute livestream recorded after the shooting reveals Eatherly talking to police and paramedics while receiving treatment for an arm injury.

So, from what Eatherly said, it sounds like he approached a group who were apparently laughing and pointing at him. He claims one of them told him to leave him alone, and that he actually did walk away before the guy came back to confront him again. It’s a pretty upsetting situation, honestly.

So, from what I understand, this guy apparently threatened to hit Eatherly after he said something the other man didn’t like. Then, Eatherly says he shot him because he felt like he was defending himself, and that the guy kept coming at him even after being shot.

According to a transcript of the event, Eatherly stated that the man began attacking him and continued to do so even after Eatherly shot him in self-defense. He said the man ‘kept hitting me.’

At the scene, first responders talked about the injuries to Eatherly, first noting a minor wound on his left arm and scrapes on his head. One responder later clarified that the arm wound was more serious than initially thought, describing it as a puncture wound that went completely through the arm.

Eatherly seemed confused and asked if he had shot himself, questioning whether the bullet had just grazed him. He was then informed that the wound had actually gone through his arm.

The recorded conversation includes first responders mentioning the injured person had been shot in the stomach. Eatherly stated he hoped the person would recover and that he had attempted to leave the situation.

This latest event happened shortly after Eatherly was arrested in Nashville for a similar issue at another restaurant. According to local news, he was accused of not paying a $400 bill, causing a disturbance, and fighting with police when they tried to arrest him.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be investigating the shooting. They didn’t have any further details to share when they first announced the investigation.
