In about six months, a highly awaited sequel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be released, bringing back Robert Downey Jr. in a new role and the directing duo known as the Russo Brothers. Joe and Anthony Russo previously directed the hugely successful Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and they’re exceptionally skilled at creating large-scale Marvel films that also connect with audiences on an emotional level.
I was really surprised to learn just how hands-on the Russo brothers actually are when they’re filming those huge Marvel movies! It’s cool to see how involved they get.
This led the Russo brothers to start discussing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. When we arranged an interview for Infinity War, they requested that Marvel Studios star Robert Downey Jr. participate as well.
Thanks to Robert Downey Jr.’s participation, we gained valuable insights into the background of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how Avengers: Infinity War was made.
‘They’re Not Expecting It’
Most people familiar with the movie Avengers: Endgame, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, know that Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) makes the ultimate sacrifice to defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin). He uses his Iron Man suit to collect all the Infinity Stones and then eliminates Thanos with a powerful snap, but the act costs him his own life.
Over time, rumors circulated that the filmmakers considered a darker ending for ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ with Thanos killing Iron Man (Tony Stark). There’s even a scene on Titan where Tony is seriously injured – nearly impaled – hinting at this possibility, though he ultimately survives.
I had the amazing chance to interview Robert Downey Jr. and Joe Russo about Avengers: Infinity War, and during our conversation, something surprising turned out to be true – at least temporarily.
They did, and it was a spectacular sendoff to the hero who helped Marvel Studios start it all.
What’s Next For Downey In The MCU?
Most people already know that Robert Downey Jr., famous for starting the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man, has said he’ll be working with the Russo Brothers again. He’s reportedly going to play the villain Victor Von Doom in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
It’s a bold move to turn one of their most beloved heroes into the iconic villain Doomsday. However, if this new story can capture even a fraction of the emotional impact, thrilling action, and high stakes of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Marvel is set to maintain its dominance in Hollywood for years to come with characters like The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Avengers.
