Earlier this year, during the Pokémon franchise’s birthday celebration, a new game called Pokémon Winds & Waves was revealed. This game marks the start of Generation 10 and introduces a variety of new Pokémon. It appears to be a promising development for the series, which could benefit from some fresh gameplay ideas after recent installments haven’t significantly innovated.
Fortunately, Winds & Waves seems promising, offering a world of islands inspired by Southeast Asia. While it’s been announced, details are still scarce, so fans are digging through leaks and available information to learn more about the game.
A new possible leak has surfaced, but it has several issues, so it’s best to disregard it for now.
If you saw the announcement for Pokémon Winds & Waves, you’ll know the new starter Pokémon – Pombon (Fire-type), Browt (Grass-type), and Gecqua (Water-type) – have been revealed in the first trailer. Fans generally liked them, and people immediately started imagining what their evolved forms might look like.
We don’t have a confirmed answer yet, but a Twitter/X account called PKMNLEAK posted a screenshot claiming to show the next evolutions for some characters. However, the supposed evolution for Gecqua is actually just a picture of Frogadier, so it’s likely the other images aren’t correct either.
Luckily, the initial design seems well-received, because the other revealed starter designs haven’t impressed fans. Many commenters described the images as unattractive and appearing to be generated by artificial intelligence. It would be disappointing if the final evolutions for these new Pokémon and the upcoming generation turned out to be so unoriginal.
We haven’t announced a specific release date for the new games yet, only that they’re expected sometime in 2027. However, many believe Game Freak will likely release them towards the end of the year, following their usual launch pattern to reach new players.
As a Pokémon fan, I think Pokémon Winds & Waves is a really important game – honestly, it feels like one of the best we’ve gotten in a while. I’m really hoping it gives the series the boost it needs after a bit of a slow period.
