
It looked like it would be a fantastic year, especially after the surprising hit of Wonder Man on Disney+ in January and the incredibly popular trailer for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With a lot of exciting projects underway, things were progressing well towards the release of Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026.
In mid-April, Disney announced more layoffs, and this time it impacted Marvel Studios. Reports indicate the entire visual development team was let go – a significant change for the studio.
This is a major change at Marvel Studios and throughout Disney, especially as Marvel Studios and Marvel Comics are preparing for what’s expected to be their biggest year ever.
Marvel Hit With Mass Layoffs Due to Disney
Recent reports show that Marvel is experiencing layoffs across many departments, including film, TV, comics, and even finance and legal. Sources say both the New York and Burbank offices are affected, with roughly 8% of the workforce being let go.
According to the report, Marvel Studios has made substantial cuts to its visual development department. They are now keeping a small, core team to manage freelance artists hired for each individual project.
