Hirohiko Araki, the famous manga artist behind the incredibly popular and long-running series known for its distinctive art, has now contributed his skills to another well-known manga, coinciding with a significant anniversary.
I recently saw that Araki, a well-known manga artist, created a new drawing inspired by a scene from the manga Kingdom. It’s a cool tribute, especially since Kingdom is gaining a lot more fans internationally now that it’s been released globally. The fact that other famous manga artists are involved is definitely helping to spread the word. This drawing is part of a larger project called the “Social Kingdom Project,” which is celebrating the manga’s 20th anniversary.
JoJo’s Creator Takes a ‘Stand’ With New 20th Anniversary Kingdom Art
The Social Kingdom Project began in January 2006 as a commemorative initiative. It quickly became a highly successful and popular series, even earning praise from well-known manga artists. Notably, Hirohiko Araki, the creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, has worked with the Kingdom series on past events and projects.
Araki recently recreated a panel featuring the character Ou Ki from chapter 129 of the manga Kingdom. He redrew it in his own distinct style, softening the sharp angles while still maintaining the character’s personality. Araki mentioned that drawing the armored characters from Kingdom was challenging, but the final result is excellent.
Araki congratulated the manga Kingdom on its 20th anniversary in a message on X (formerly Twitter). He called it a remarkable work deserving of the milestone and expressed his pleasure in drawing the character Ou Ki. Fans responded with enthusiastic praise for Araki’s art, with some playfully comparing its quality to a high-speed, international competition.
The Social Kingdom Project is commemorating 20 years of the Kingdom manga, which is still being published with 78 volumes currently available. While the series has gained a dedicated international following, only five volumes have been translated into English so far, but more are expected as its popularity grows outside of Japan.
The Social Kingdom Project has already featured several well-known artists, including Sui Ishida (creator of Tokyo Ghoul), Masanori Morita (Rookies), Hiroya Oku (Gantz), and Kengo Hanazawa (Under Ninja). Each of them reimagined scenes from the Kingdom manga using their unique artistic style.
