As a lifelong cinema fan, I’ve known about Krypto the Superdog – Superman’s canine counterpart – for ages from the comics, but he only just made it into a Superman movie last year. Apparently, filmmakers used to think he was a bit too silly or over-the-top for a modern audience. Boy, were they wrong! Krypto totally stole the show from David Corenswet’s Superman, and it was amazing to see. In fact, there was even a noticeable jump in dog adoptions after the film came out – talk about a good boy making a big impact!
This year’s Supergirl movie will feature a return appearance by Krypto, Superman’s dog. The film centers on Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), Superman’s cousin, who briefly appeared at the end of Superman to pick up Krypto – Superman was simply looking after him while Kara was away. As the newest installment in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, the story will follow Supergirl and Krypto on a galactic journey. While the movie takes place after the events of Superman, it will also include flashbacks, as Gunn recently shared a photo of a young Krypto puppy.
I just got a peek at a new teaser for the upcoming movie, and while it mostly shows clips we’ve already seen, there are a few fresh moments. The cutest? Definitely Baby Krypto! The teaser opens with him playfully running towards Supergirl, who then lovingly picks him up. She asks, simply, “Who are you?” It’s a sweet little scene, and you can check it out for yourself below.
The Cuteness of Baby Krypto Will Surely Destroy Us All
Krypto was a fan favorite in the Superman movies, even as an adult dog. Now, as a puppy, he’s sure to be even more lovable! Supergirl is already predicted to be a blockbuster when it comes out on June 26, 2026, and with Baby Krypto joining the fun, it has the potential to be the year’s biggest film.
Alongside Milly Alcock, the cast of Supergirl includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the space pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll – a young girl who enlists Supergirl to help her avenge her father – David Krumholtz as Supergirl’s father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as the boisterous space bounty hunter Lobo. David Corenswet will also make a cameo appearance as Superman.
The first look at the new Supergirl series was just one of several trailers and previews shown during the Super Bowl. We’ll be highlighting the most exciting ones.
