I’m so excited! Taner Games just announced that their musou action RPG, The Awakener: Battle Tendency, is coming to PC (on Steam!) on May 5th. And even better, you can play local co-op with a friend! I can’t wait to jump in.
This game is different from The Awakener: Risen (previously known as Arise of Awakener). Risen was first revealed at the Tokyo Game Show in 2021, showcased again in 2022, and most recently seen in September 2024. Taner Games has confirmed that the game hasn’t been cancelled and remains a future project.
You can find a new trailer, gameplay footage, details, and screenshots for The Awakener: Battle Tendency courtesy of Taner Games, all linked below.

Elf Knight vs Goblins Gameplay Clip
The Awakener: Battle Tendency is an action RPG where you battle enemies in fast-paced combat and collect lots of loot to improve your characters. You control powerful Awakeners from a third-person view, fighting alongside heroes from across time in constantly changing environments. Your goal is to overcome destiny itself and defeat the powerful demon lord known as the Erosion King, growing stronger through challenging battles and trials.
When “Loot” Meets “Action”
When we began this project a year ago, our goal was straightforward: to create an action RPG that we ourselves would love to play.
This isn’t a game that demands daily logins or pressures you to spend money. There are no ‘pay-to-win’ items or limited-time offers that make you feel like you’re missing out. It’s designed to be a relaxing experience – you can jump in after work, play a few levels, and feel satisfied when you find a great item. It’s meant to recapture that classic, rewarding feeling of games like old Diablo or Musou titles – you remember how good that felt.
That’s what Battle Tendency is.
Combat is a core focus of our game, and it’s much more dynamic than simply facing enemies and repeatedly using abilities. You’ll need to actively dodge attacks, carefully position yourself, and strike when you have an opening. The feeling of successfully dodging a swarm of enemies and landing a powerful critical hit – filling the screen with damage – is incredibly satisfying. In fact, we’ve gotten so immersed in the gameplay during testing that we’ve often lost track of time!
Deep Buildcrafting: A Tribute to Classic Number Crunching Beauty
The Equipment System is really where things get exciting. It features random bonuses that combine in unexpected and powerful ways – think chain lightning jumping between enemies, meteors falling when you land critical hits, or attack speed increasing so rapidly you become like a rapid-fire weapon. We were amazed during testing to see players create builds we hadn’t even imagined, which was a really rewarding experience.
20–50 Hours of Pure, Concentrated Fun
The game takes around 20 to 50 hours to complete. We focused on quality over quantity, so you won’t find filler content or unnecessary tasks. Each level is carefully designed, and for players who enjoy a challenge, there’s extra, more difficult content available after finishing the main game to really test their character builds.
That’s it. No seasons, no battle pass, no daily quests. One purchase, it’s yours.
Hope you have fun with it.
