The League of Legends Esports team has postponed the release of their Worlds music video. They explained that editing is taking longer than expected because they are removing scenes featuring the player Bwipo.
The League of Legends World Championship is the most important esports competition for the game, and this year it will be held in China from October 14th to November 9th. The matches will take place in Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu.
Okay, so every year before Worlds kicks off, Riot usually drops this amazing music video. It’s a huge hype builder, and it always features all the pro players and teams who made it to the tournament, mixed with scenes of our favorite League characters. It really gets me pumped!
This year, the new music video will be released only one day before the start of Worlds 2025, and the reason for the delay is quickly spreading among players.
LoL Esports removes Bwipo from Worlds Music Video
The League of Legends Esports team announced on Twitter that the release of the Worlds music video will be delayed until October 13th. This is because they’re currently working to remove footage of Bwipo, a player who earned a spot at Worlds, from the video.
So, apparently I got banned from the tournament. They told me it was because of some stuff I said back in September during a Twitch stream. Basically, I made a really dumb comment about women and competitive gaming, specifically suggesting they shouldn’t play when they have their periods. It was a terrible thing to say, and now I’m paying the price.
We initially included Bwipo in the video, but after considering his recent statements, we felt it was inappropriate to feature him in something meant to represent League of Legends Esports, its professional players, and the community.
Removing him from the footage meant major adjustments late in the production process. As he was the featured player for the Americas, that region won’t be included in this year’s video as we had planned.
This wasn’t a penalty or related to competition; it was a choice about how we present our sport and its community to the world.
The music video for Worlds will now be released on October 13th, slightly later than expected. While Bwipo was originally included, we’ve decided to remove him from the video given his recent statements. We felt it was important that the video, which celebrates LoL Esports, its pro players, and the fans, accurately reflect those values.

The decision has caused a lot of online discussion, with some people applauding LoL Esports for removing him, while others believe they’ve overreacted.
Last month, a comment made by Bwipo sparked a large online debate. He suggested that women become overly frustrated or emotionally upset while competing during menstruation, impacting their performance.
He believes women should avoid competitive gaming during their menstrual cycle, stating there’s a time of the month when it’s not ideal to compete.
I’ve seen firsthand how frustrating competitive gaming can be. I lived with someone who played a lot of League of Legends ranked matches, and it was clear when she was getting really annoyed, even by small things. I don’t mean to generalize or make any assumptions based on gender, but that’s just what I observed.
Bwipo’s statements quickly spread online, causing significant backlash within the esports community. He subsequently apologized, and his team, FlyQuest, decided to bench him. Despite this, FlyQuest has qualified for the World Championship and will compete in the tournament without him later this month.
He apologized to anyone he hurt and expressed regret for using his online platform to spread negativity and sexism instead of positivity. He stated he will be taking time to learn, listen to others, and improve his behavior.
