Publishers New Tales and Asmodee, along with developer Artefacts Studio, have released Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC/Mac (via Steam).
Heroes of Descent, first revealed in February 2026, takes place a year before the story in the board game Descent: Legends of the Dark. It blends fast-paced exploration with strategic, turn-based combat.
A launch trailer and description can be found below, via Artefacts Studio.
Following months of previews, feedback from players, and increasing excitement, Artefacts Studio and New Tales are proud to announce the release of Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent. This is the first video game based on Fantasy Flight Games’ popular Descent universe.
A new trailer is available now to celebrate the game’s launch, showcasing the world of Terrinoth, its heroes, exciting battles, and challenging dungeons that players can explore starting today.
Ever since players got a first look last February, this game has been creating a real buzz. The demo on Steam has received overwhelmingly positive feedback – over 87% of reviews are positive – proving the quality of this indie tactical RPG created by Artefacts Studio. Fans of the original Descent board game appreciate how well it captures the feel of the classic, and newcomers are enjoying its easy-to-learn gameplay and focus on teamwork.
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent takes place in the world of Terrinoth, a year before the story begins in Descent: Legends of the Dark. Players will experience adventures within these challenging lands.
The original demo let players explore the Crypts of Aerendor only by themselves. Now, Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent lets you experience the entire adventure with a story campaign divided into 4 chapters, perfect for quick one-hour games or longer cooperative sessions.
Players will journey through 20 diverse dungeons as they advance in the game. Conversations feel more realistic and change depending on which characters are in your group. The game is fully voiced in English, featuring performances by actors like Samantha Béart, who help bring the world of Terrinoth and its heroes to life.
Players can choose from 8 different heroes in this game, all based on classic fantasy roles. Each hero has their own backstory, special abilities, and fights in a completely unique way.
Battles are a core part of the game, featuring a combat system that’s simple to learn but offers plenty of strategic depth. Players can work together, combining each hero’s unique skills for powerful team-based effects, so coordinating with your allies is key to success.
During the game, players will encounter powerful bosses and famous monsters from the world of Terrinoth. Battles are challenging and require careful strategy – things like where you place your characters, how you use the environment, and managing special abilities can be key to winning.
As a fan, I love that you can play this online with friends – up to four of us at once! And it’s awesome that you can even jump into a game that’s already started. It really feels like those old, super-focused tabletop strategy games we used to play, but now everything is decided through cool turn-based combat.
Artefacts Studio, the team from Lyon known for The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos, has achieved a major goal with Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent. They successfully turned the popular ‘Descent’ board game into a tactical RPG while staying true to what made the original so beloved.
“Being fans of the original game ourselves, it was a real challenge to create a video game adaptation that felt both faithful to the world of Terrinoth and uniquely our own,” says Bruno Chabanel, CEO of Artefacts Studio. “We aimed to recreate the special feeling and easy-to-learn gameplay of Descent, and bring it to life as a video game while staying true to the spirit of the board game.”
New Tales helped fund and launch this game worldwide. According to CEO Cédric Maréchal, positive feedback from a demo showed that people were excited about the game and loved the Descent universe. He says they’re thrilled to finally release the full game, letting players experience Terrinoth on their own or with others.
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent represents a significant first for Asmodee and Fantasy Flight Games – it’s the first time the popular Terrinoth world has been turned into a tactical role-playing game.
Fans have wanted a full video game based on the Descent universe for a long time,” says Bill Altig, VP of Narrative Games at Asmodee. “Artefacts Studio has successfully captured the feel of the original game while creating a visually impressive and cinematic experience.”
Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent has launched today on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s priced at $34.99 or €34.99.
