Museum’s Knight Rider car hit with speeding ticket despite not moving in years

The famous Knight Rider car on display at a museum received a parking ticket because someone else was illegally using its license plate in another state.

KITT, the car from the TV show Knight Rider, is a truly famous vehicle and consistently ranks among the most recognizable cars in television and film. It’s so popular that many fans have built their own versions!

One of these items is now on display at the Volo Museum in Illinois. You might remember this museum – it was the one that experienced flooding during its Titanic exhibition on the 114th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.

The museum also reported that they received a fine from the police because someone else used their “KNIGHT” license plate on a car resembling KITT to break the speed limit in another state.

KITT car exhibit hit with speeding ticket from other state

We received some surprising news today! A Facebook post from May 7th shared a photo apparently showing KITT, the famous car from Knight Rider, speeding through New York City, captured by a traffic camera. They confirmed the photo is genuine.

We were surprised to see a fake California license plate on camera – it wasn’t a legitimate plate! Apparently, the system connected it to the Volo Museum, and we received a $50 bill because of it. It’s unbelievable! Our KITT car hasn’t left the museum in years, so it couldn’t possibly have been driving around.

The driver received a speeding ticket for going too fast in a school zone. Volo also requested contact information for David Hasselhoff, intending to send him the bill.

Drivers have used fake license plates to avoid speeding tickets and fines before. This isn’t a new problem.

Katie Unis is the registered owner of the original “BORT” license plate in Massachusetts, but she keeps getting bills for tolls and other fees incurred by drivers using fake plates inspired by the one from The Simpsons.

Unis protested the charges, which were issued by New York state, and even got apologies from drivers on TikTok.
