Apple TV has become known for high-quality shows like Severance, consistently offering engaging stories, unexpected plot twists, and strong acting. It’s no surprise, then, that their newest murder mystery, Imperfect Women, is currently a hit with viewers.
According to FlixPatrol, the show is currently the most popular on Apple TV worldwide. It’s the top show in countries like Argentina, Austria, Canada, and France. In the US, it’s number one, and in the UK, it’s a close second.
The streaming series Imperfect Women has gained popularity following its surprising finale on April 29th. While based on Araminta Hall’s 2020 novel of the same name, the show took a bold and unexpected turn, offering a completely different ending than the book and surprising many fans.
What Is Imperfect Women About?
Imperfect Women tells the story of three close friends – Mary, Eleanor, and Nancy – who have stayed connected since their college days. Despite leading very different lives, their friendship has always been strong. However, their lives are turned upside down when Nancy is found murdered, and suspicion falls on everyone around her, including Mary, Eleanor, and Nancy’s husband, Robert.
Nancy’s murder turns everyone she knew into a suspect, and forces those closest to her to examine their own lives and hidden secrets. Imperfect Women explores both the investigation into her death and the ways those around her cope with the loss, building to a surprising revelation at the end.
The series features Mary, played by Kerry Washington, Eleanor, played by Kate Mara, and Nancy. Joel Kinnaman stars as Robert, who is married to Nancy, and Corey Stoll plays Howard, Mary’s husband. Eleanor is the only member of her friend group who isn’t married. Leslie Odom Jr. appears as Donovan, Eleanor’s brother, in Imperfect Women.
Imperfect Women Received Mixed Reviews
Critics weren’t impressed with Imperfect Women. The show received a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on reviews from critics, and audiences gave it a similar 45% score. On IMDb, it has a 6.1 rating from over 3,000 viewers, but Metacritic users gave it a surprisingly low score of 2.9.
In a review for TIME Magazine, Judy Berman described Imperfect Women as a potentially enjoyable, fast-paced thriller with an appealing Los Angeles backdrop, but lacking in genuine emotional connection or complexity. Sherin Nicole of RogerEbert.com simply called the show ‘just fine,’ neither praising nor criticizing it.
Despite any initial doubts, the Apple TV show quickly became a streaming success. Following its surprising finale, it remained the most-watched show globally, demonstrating the series’ enduring appeal. This makes ‘Imperfect Women’ a captivating murder mystery that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats until the very last moment.
Imperfect Women is available to stream on Apple TV worldwide.
