An actor from the American legal drama The Rainmaker recently shared news about the show’s future, seven months after its first season of ten episodes finished airing.
P.J. Byrne, who plays Deck Shifflet on The Rainmaker, announced on Instagram that season two is now in production. He shared the news with a post saying, “We’re BACK!!!! The Rainmaker has started filming Season 2! See you soon on @usanetwork!!!” He also included a series of over a dozen behind-the-scenes photos featuring the cast.

Before starring in The Rainmaker, Byrne had already built an impressive resume with roles in projects like Horrible Bosses, The Wolf of Wall Street, Bombshell, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, A Complete Unknown, The Game, The Legend of Korra, Big Little Lies, and Never Have I Ever, as well as numerous other films and television series.
His latest show, The Rainmaker, brings John Grisham’s 1995 novel to television. The story was previously adapted into a film starring a large ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, and Claire Danes, among others.
After opening in theaters in November 1997, the movie made $45.9 million. It’s been well-received, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics giving it an 82% approval rating and audiences a 78%. During award season, Jon Voight was nominated for a Golden Globe, and Danny Glover received a nomination at the NAACP Image Awards.
Nearly thirty years after the original, Blumhouse and Lionsgate created a TV series based on The Rainmaker for USA Network. The show stars actors like Byrne, Milo Callaghan, Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, Robyn Cara, and John Slattery. In season two, Merle Dandridge joined the cast as attorney Amanda Vonn, and Austin Nichols played Jocelyn “Bruiser” Stone’s former husband.
Like the book and movie it’s based on, USA’s version of The Rainmaker follows Rudy Baylor, a young lawyer. After losing his first job, he’s hired by J. Lyman Stone and Associates to work on a wrongful death case. During the trial, Rudy discovers his former employer is actually representing the hospital involved.
The first season of The Rainmaker concluded with a major victory for Rudy, who successfully won his client an $82 million settlement from the hospital.
While the movie The Rainmaker was well-received by critics (earning an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes), the TV series based on it has received more mixed reviews, with a critic score of 58%. Viewers, however, really seem to enjoy the show, giving it an 84% audience score.
The Rainmaker is the newest legal drama from USA Network, joining shows like Suits, Pearson, Fairly Legal, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. While a specific date hasn’t been announced, the second season is anticipated to premiere in fall 2026.
