Little Caesars and another popular pizza company are now delivering pizzas by drone, with Little Caesars boasting delivery times of just over four minutes.
Delivering goods with drones and robots is becoming increasingly popular, and while Amazon has been a pioneer in this area, pizza restaurants are now starting to use this technology too.
Around the middle of May, both Papa Johns and Little Caesars announced they were starting to deliver pizzas by drone.
Little Caesars pizza drones deliver food in mere minutes
Little Caesars is now delivering pizzas by drone in Wylie, Texas, thanks to a partnership with Flytrex. Customers can expect their orders to arrive in around four and a half minutes.
Ordering is simple with Flytrex. Customers use the app to see if their location is within the delivery area—currently a four-mile radius. They can then create an order including up to two large 16-inch pizzas, along with sides and drinks, as long as the total weight doesn’t exceed 8.8 pounds.

So, once I place my order, it goes directly to Little Caesars. They make my pizza like normal, but instead of a delivery driver showing up, a drone actually comes and picks it up right at the curb! It’s pretty wild.
The drone then arrives at the customer’s house in roughly four and a half minutes. It carefully hovers above the yard and gently lowers the package using a wire.
This system is a major benefit because it avoids traffic, guaranteeing Little Caesars customers receive their pizza hot and fresh.
Papa Johns launches drone delivery, but not for pizza
Papa Johns is now offering drone delivery in Charlotte, North Carolina, thanks to a partnership with Wing. They’re currently delivering toasted sandwiches to customers using drones.
Wing and Papa Johns are working together to create a new way to deliver food using autonomous technology. They’re starting with a test program in Charlotte, North Carolina, delivering their new Oven Toasted Sandwiches. This is also the beginning of a partnership to research and develop improvements in the future of quick service restaurant delivery.

Currently, drone delivery is only available for a small menu – Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Steak and Mushroom sandwiches. Don’t expect to have a Papa Johns pizza delivered by drone anytime soon.
These companies believe this project will significantly change the industry, and they see it as the first step in a larger process.
