Ouro Kronii states she lost an English voice acting job in the game Eternal Return because of a joke she made during a sponsored livestream almost five years ago, which received negative feedback.

A hololive English VTuber was originally going to provide the voice for Bihyung in the English version of the free-to-play game Eternal Return, created by Nimble Neuron. However, the role has been given to someone else. Kronii explained that this happened because fans found an old video clip and misinterpreted a joke she made during a very early sponsored stream.

During a gameplay moment, Kronii spotted a boar and made a playful joke, saying she’d defeat it because it was ‘such a bore’ – a pun on the animal’s name and the word ‘bore’ meaning uninteresting.

Official Eternal Return account confirms Bihyung voice actor change

The official Japanese social media for Eternal Return announced that a new voice actor will be taking over the role of Bihyung. They didn’t mention the specific actor being replaced, or the recent joke about a boar that caused some discussion.

According to a recent announcement, the English voice actor for the character Bihyung will be replaced. The new voice won’t be available immediately, but the developers plan to add it back in as soon as they can.

More information about who will be doing the voice work and when the new recordings will be released will be announced soon.

The team at Eternal Return explained that they find English voice actors with help from outside companies, using a process similar to an open audition. The developers choose voices by listening to submitted recordings without knowing who the actors are.

Kronii addresses backlash over Eternal Return role

After the character was re-voiced, Kronii explained that her previous comment wasn’t about the game’s quality, and she would never have made such a remark during a sponsored broadcast.

She explained that while most people recognized it as a joke, some non-native English speakers misunderstood and thought she was actually saying the game was boring and offensive.

Kronii mentioned the original stream took place about three months after she started, when she was still getting used to being on camera and tended to be quieter. She also noted that some viewers had commented that she didn’t seem very enthusiastic back then.

She said she never realized puns could cause people to second-guess your character.

The VTuber explained that she thinks she should apologize if she truly says something offensive, but she feels this issue is made up by others misinterpreting her statements.

She explained she only made a joke and might have sounded a little hesitant because she was nervous. The joke was about the animal itself, not the game.

Fans are strongly reacting negatively to the changes, with many feeling the recasting isn’t necessary considering how old the original footage is.

Kronii is still an active member of hololive English and has resumed streaming after discussing the recent issue.
