Costco testing new chicken menu item to replace Calzone combo

Costco is trying out a new food item in a few locations, and it looks like this new option will be replacing the calzone they introduced last year.

Most people visit the Costco food court for affordable classics like hot dogs and drinks, chicken bakes, or pizza slices. But recently, other items on the menu have been getting a lot of attention online.

Costco stores in different countries offer varying choices, and the company has also been experimenting with new items in the United States. One example is the Calzone, which launched as part of a combo meal in May 2025.

Despite its popularity, the Calzone might soon be replaced, as Costco is now trying out new chicken strips in some stores.

Costco testing chicken tenders at food court

Costco is now trying out a 5-piece chicken tender meal at six stores around Chicago, including locations in Schaumburg, Niles, and Lincoln Park.

According to CostcoInsider on Instagram, Costco’s five-piece chicken strips are baked, not fried, and contain nearly 2000 calories. They come with a honey dipping sauce that TheTakeout says tastes similar to Chick-fil-A’s famous sauce.

These strips currently cost $6.99 while we’re testing them, but the price might change if they become available across the country.

Many social media users also pointed out the high calorie count of the five-piece chicken tenders – 1640 calories. One person commented, “That’s a lot of calories for just five tenders!” Another user suggested they look similar to frozen Tyson chicken strips and asked if anyone could confirm. Others steered the conversation towards their favorite menu item, with one person declaring the calzone the best option.

Many Costco customers have been asking for the return of popular, discontinued food court items like the Churro, but it doesn’t look like those requests will be fulfilled.

The major retailer is opening large gas stations across the US, and these locations won’t be attached to their existing stores. The first one is planned for California.
