An Indian university is experiencing a surprising problem: a very aggressive squirrel. Over the past six weeks, the squirrel has reportedly bitten at least 18 people, even the dean of the school.
Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Rajasthan, India, is experiencing a strange conflict – students are facing off against a squirrel on campus.
Local news reports say a squirrel has built its nest near the Psychology department. It’s been unexpectedly running out to attack people walking by, then quickly running away.
According to NDTV, a local news source, 18 to 20 people have been bitten by the animal, which staff believe is acting defensively to protect its territory.
According to College Associate Dean Naveen Navana, the University has contacted local animal rescue groups twice to try and handle a disruptive animal. However, the animal has successfully avoided being caught and moved to a new location each time.

After receiving reports of squirrel bites, we’ve called animal control twice. They tried trapping the squirrel in several locations, but it was too smart and managed to get away each time. Now, we’re asking everyone to immediately report any squirrel sightings to the authorities, according to Naveen.
Experts advise caution after aggressive squirrel bites students & faculty
Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sharma, from the local Animal Husbandry Department, advises anyone bitten by a squirrel to get a tetanus shot. He notes that while squirrels rarely carry rabies, it’s still a good precaution to take.
Squirrels have never been documented to transmit rabies to people in the United States, and they are very unlikely to carry the disease.
However, it doesn’t eliminate the risk entirely. Experts, such as Dr. Sharma, advise being careful and seeking medical attention if bitten.
A new trend of squirrels chewing on vapes has gone viral on social media, causing worry for animal welfare organizations. Videos of these squirrels have been circulating worldwide.
