The Church of Scientology has criticized a recent online trend called ‘speedrunning,’ saying it has caused disruption and problems for them.
It’s human nature to be curious about restricted places. When people are told they can’t enter somewhere, many immediately want to find a way in – this is especially true for famous locations like Area 51 and Buckingham Palace.
I’ve noticed the Church of Scientology is usually open to the public, letting you walk in and look around. But lately, it seems like they’re being a bit more private. Apparently, this is because of a recent social media trend where people are ‘speedrunning’ through their introductory courses, and they’re trying to limit access because of it.
A recent trend has emerged where people are running into Scientology buildings, primarily in Los Angeles, to try and see areas beyond the reception area. This has sometimes led to police detaining teenagers involved.
Church of Scientology hits out at viral TikTok trend
Not surprisingly, the Church of Scientology is unhappy with this recent trend, stating it has created difficulties for them.
Look, things have been crazy lately. People have been breaking into our Church buildings on Hollywood Boulevard over and over. It’s not just trespassing, they’re messing up services, damaging stuff, and honestly, it’s been scary for everyone – the staff, people who come to pray, and even just visitors. We’re calling it harassment because it feels like that – constant disruption and a real threat to our space.
During the disturbance, some staff members were injured. The Church is now looking at ways to better protect its staff, visitors, and buildings.
Some doors are missing handles to keep people out, and staff are watching closely for anyone trying to enter the building.
Even though the initial burst of viral videos has died down, people known as ‘speedrunners’ are still exploring Scientology buildings, hoping to uncover hidden information after a thorough search.
The Los Angeles Police Department is on high alert and responding to numerous daily calls regarding potential incidents at the Scientology building, according to NBC Los Angeles.
