The popular show Tracker is undergoing changes as it faces increasing competition. Since premiering in 2024, Tracker had consistently been the most-watched scripted drama on network television. However, the recent debut of CBS’s new series, Marshals, a spin-off of Yellowstone, has challenged its position.
Following the success of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, the new series Marshals centers on Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) as he becomes a U.S. Marshal. The show had a hugely popular premiere, attracting 9.52 million viewers – making it the most-watched new series of the 2025-2026 television season and putting pressure on Justin Hartley’s show to maintain its lead.
Colter Shaw’s Team Changes Drastically In Tracker Season 3, Episode 15
Okay, so in Season 3, Episode 15 of Tracker, things really shift for Colter Shaw. For the first time, he’s not working alone – his core team, including Randy, actually joins him on a case! The episode kicks off with Randy’s friend, Simon Boyce, vanishing from his Minneapolis home while under house arrest, and both Shaw and Randy immediately get involved in the search.
However, Episode 15 represents a shift for Tracker. The show begins using its full hour on CBS to explore more than just the case of the week. With Randy investigating and Reenie helping Simon alongside Colter in Minneapolis, the team works together more effectively, letting the series explore compelling stories focused on its characters.
Colter, with Randy at his side, asks about the office and specifically how Green is doing after last season’s kidnapping. Being close to Colter allows for more personal conversations. This timing is ideal, as Colter’s team has worked with him on cases before, but this feels like a turning point.
While it’s great to finally see Randy and Reenie working alongside Colter, the latest episode of Tracker is about more than just that. It really highlights the strengths of the team and pushes Colter to move away from his usual solo approach. Throughout Season 3, the team has felt a bit stuck, so this episode feels like a welcome change of pace and a step in the right direction.
Tracker Season 3’s Character Changes Are Needed To Save Justin Hartley’s Show
Now that Tracker is facing strong competition as the most popular drama on network TV, the show needs to make some changes to Colter Shaw’s team. As the stakes get higher and other shows compete for viewers, Tracker is also starting to use its supporting characters differently. Finding the right balance with these characters has always been a challenge for the series, but it’s crucial to get it right now.
Because of competition from the new show Marshals, CBS has changed its Sunday night schedule. Marshals now airs at the same time as Tracker, and Tracker has been moved to an earlier time slot previously held by a Yellowstone spinoff. This shift means the Yellowstone spinoff now airs at 8 pm Eastern, while Tracker airs later in the evening.
Even though Tracker remains a popular and successful show on network television, the recent changes are a smart move to keep it that way. By focusing on developing the relationships between characters, Tracker is acknowledging and fixing its biggest weakness, which will help ensure its continued success.
Colter has always been a loner, and this is especially noticeable now that he’s working with a team in Denver. However, as the show Tracker faces tougher competition, its success relies on moving beyond its standard crime-solving format. To truly captivate audiences and increase the tension, the series needs to explore Colter’s personal relationships – something a simple case-of-the-week storyline can’t deliver.
