Even though 2025 has ended, final box office numbers are still being calculated. In February 2026, Zootopia 2 surpassed A Minecraft Movie to become the top-grossing film domestically for 2025. Variety reports that Zootopia 2 is just slightly ahead with $424.2 million in North American earnings, compared to Minecraft‘s $424.08. The writer jokingly notes they could have used the word ‘hare’ instead of ‘hair,’ but decided against it.
The sequel to Zootopia was already projected to be the highest-grossing international film of 2025, earning $1.425 billion, and the highest-grossing worldwide with $1.85 billion. A Minecraft Movie had been leading at the North American box office until now. In 2025, Disney had three films—the Zootopia sequel, the live-action Lilo & Stitch, and Avatar: Fire and Ash—that each earned over a billion dollars, bringing the studio’s total global earnings to more than $6 billion. Now, Disney hopes the new Zootopia show at Animal Kingdom will generate a similar level of excitement.
