A historic Japanese pottery company, with roots stretching back 350 years and a past supplying gifts to powerful feudal lords, is now creating exclusive “Ghost in the Shell” merchandise – and it’s quite expensive.
Inspired by the popular spider-like AI tanks from the anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, a limited edition of 50 handcrafted porcelain Tachikoma figures are available. Each one costs ¥770,000, which is about $4,900.
This porcelain figure is made in the Nabeshima style, a highly respected form of Japanese pottery with a history of around 350 years. Originally, Nabeshima ware was created as gifts for the shogunate, the country’s ruling military class, and became known as some of Japan’s finest ceramic pieces.
Ghost in the Shell collab worthy of samurai royalty
The press release states that the porcelain figures were created using a new 3D model to accurately represent Tachikoma’s spider-like form. Each figure is made with high-quality clay from Amakusa and individually hand-painted using traditional brushwork, ensuring a unique, handcrafted look.
