Even before the first trailer is released, Marvel’s new Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is receiving criticism. Fans of Sam Wilson’s Captain America are disappointed with reports about how the movie’s trailers will be presented, believing their version of the hero is being overlooked in favor of older, established characters.
Sam Wilson fans react to Avengers: Doomsday trailer description
For weeks, people have been talking about teasers for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, expecting Marvel to release several trailers to get fans excited. But a new report suggests these aren’t typical trailers at all. Instead, they’ll be short videos focusing on individual characters who will appear in the film.
On December 15th, a reliable source known as MyTimeToShineHello (MTTSH) posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the recently released previews aren’t full trailers, but rather four short clips, each highlighting a different character. According to MTTSH, Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) will be the focus of three of these clips.
She explained that the initial teaser featuring Steve Rogers was originally planned as the third in a series, but will now be released first. It depicts Steve biking home with his baby son, and includes the tagline ‘Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,’ along with the release date ‘December 2026’ and a countdown timer.
Fans of Sam Wilson, the current Captain America, reacted negatively to the news. They were frustrated that Marvel seems to be bringing Steve Rogers back as a central figure, even though his story concluded in Avengers: Endgame and Sam Wilson was established as his successor.
A fan expressed frustration with the casting choice for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, stating it was surprisingly simple to pick a lead, but the chosen character already had a satisfying conclusion to their story six years ago.
You know, I remember a lot of people, myself included, were worried about how Marvel was handling Sam Wilson becoming Captain America. When we voiced those concerns, we were basically told to just be patient and that we were getting ahead of ourselves. It felt like they were asking us to trust them, even though we hadn’t seen enough to feel confident yet.
Many people reacted to Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson, expressing concern that his version of Captain America wasn’t being developed enough in the storyline. One commenter simply stated, “Sam Wilson deserves better.”
One fan pointed out that giving Sam Wilson a poorly received solo Hulk movie and then quickly bringing Steve Rogers back to lead felt unfair.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
