Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Ending & Post-Credits Scenes Explained: How They Set Up FNAF3

Be warned, this contains spoilers for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2! The movie ends with a big cliffhanger, heavily hinting at a sequel. The story centers on Mike, Abby, and Vanessa as their lives become connected to the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and the haunted animatronics – including The Marionette – that have been trapped there for years.

The climactic showdown between Charlotte, the Toy animatronics, Vanessa’s brother Michael Afton (who works as a security guard), and the kids—Mike, Abby, and Vanessa—is suddenly stopped when the original animatronics arrive at the Schmidt house to help. The ending of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, including a scene after the credits, introduces important events that will shape the future of the series.

Vanessa Is Possessed By The Marionette/Charlotte In Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Cliffhanger

The last scene of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 features Vanessa standing by herself in the doorway of the Schmidt house. Mike has just asked her to leave him and his daughter, Abby, alone, telling her he doesn’t trust her. Overwhelmed with sadness and anger, Vanessa is suddenly taken over by the spirit of Charlotte, and her face begins to change, taking on the appearance of The Marionette.

Throughout the movie, Charlotte takes control of different people, beginning with Lisa, a paranormal investigator, and then Abby. However, she’s forced out of Abby’s body when Mike begins playing a music box created by Charlotte’s father, Henry. Before the animatronics and Michael arrive, Charlotte is seen leaving Abby’s body and moving to another room while Mike and Vanessa check on her.

When Vanessa was at her most vulnerable, Charlotte seized the chance to possess her body. They had been childhood friends, and Vanessa had even seen Charlotte’s angry spirit after her death. Although Charlotte insisted she didn’t harbor any ill will towards Vanessa, she desperately needed a human host, and Vanessa, feeling abandoned, was easily controlled.

She’s alone because of Mike. He lost trust in Vanessa after she kept secrets from him. Although he initially seemed to forgive her for hiding Charlotte’s death and where it happened, learning about her brother was the last thing he could handle.

I’m really intrigued by the idea of Vanessa being taken over by the Marionette – or The Puppet, as we know it from the Five Nights at Freddy’s games. It’s a fresh take on the story! While the Puppet did hold Charlotte’s spirit in the games, it never actually possessed William Afton’s daughter. And it’s interesting because her possessing Circus Baby already happened, so seeing her connected to another one of her dad’s creations isn’t totally out of the blue, but still adds a cool layer to everything.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Mid-Credits Scene Awakens Springtrap

Okay, so after the movie ended and the credits started, there was this extra scene! It showed these guys breaking into the old Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza place – the one from the first movie – trying to find cool stuff for a Freddy Fazbear festival. They were hoping to find some real vintage items. Then, one of them stumbled into a room we’d never seen before, and get this – they found the yellow rabbit suit! You know, the one William Afton was wearing when things went down at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s? It was seriously creepy!

The men carefully wrapped him in plastic to protect the suit from the rain. Once they left, one of the eyes suddenly lit up, signaling Afton’s spirit had returned and taken control of the Yellow Rabbit suit—also called Spring Bonnie or Springtrap.

While fans predicted Afton would return as Spring Bonnie, the movie actually hinted at it earlier. We see the ghost of a child who once inhabited one of the animatronics as it’s about to move on. This ghost warns Mike that someone will escape and become more powerful. Mike doesn’t understand who the ghost means, but it turns out to be Afton, who has completely taken over the Yellow Rabbit suit.

Henry’s Message To Mike In Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’s Post-Credits

As a movie fan, I always stick around for the credits, and this sequel, like the first one, doesn’t disappoint! Not only did they have a proper credits scene, but they also added an audio message after the credits finished. In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, that message is a warning from Henry to Mike, and honestly, it turns out to be a really important piece of the puzzle.

First, Henry reveals he used to work with Afton. Similar to what we see in the games, Henry Emily helped Afton build the animatronics, and he was the one who designed the dangerous springlock mechanism. He explains to Mike that he still has some old animatronic parts that might be useful in their fight.

Henry’s message serves as a warning to Mike: The Marionette is still dangerous. He ends the message by directly telling Mike, “She’s coming for you.” The strange sounds heard throughout the message suggest that the puppet might also be pursuing Henry himself.

The extra audio after the credits in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 proves how closely the character of Henry Emily matches his portrayal in the game. It’s a clever nod to his role within the games – he’s always a disembodied voice, communicating through audio logs to offer guidance. Here, he serves the same purpose, using a recording to help Mike escape.

What Happened To Michael Afton?

The most shocking reveal in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is that the security guard, Michael, is William’s son and Vanessa’s brother. While some players might have guessed this connection based on clues, the movie doesn’t confirm his family history until the very end. However, what happens to Michael after that is now left unexplained, creating a new mystery.

After the Toy animatronics are destroyed, Michael runs from Mike’s house, only to be knocked unconscious by Jeremiah. However, when Mike, Abby, and Jeremiah leave shortly after, Michael is nowhere to be found. No one seems concerned about his disappearance, leaving his fate a mystery.

Michael once announced his plan to use the Toy animatronics to harm half the town during Freddy Fest. While that’s harder now that those animatronics are destroyed, with William’s spirit possessing Spring Bonnie, it seems likely that Michael and William will team up.

How FNAF 2 Sets Up Five Nights At Freddy’s 3

Considering everything that happens at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the groundwork is laid for the events of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.

The story appears to be building towards a conflict between the Afton family and the characters who have survived past events – Mike, Abby, and Henry. William, Vanessa, and Michael are now working together, with William and Vanessa embodying Spring Bonnie and The Marionette, and Michael seemingly continuing his father’s legacy.

Henry’s message suggests they’ll keep working together, focusing on rescuing Vanessa from Charlotte’s control. If they succeed, Vanessa could potentially rejoin the team to help fight William and Michael.

The film could also give us a more detailed look into the history of Henry and William, explaining how they first started working together, what caused their relationship to fall apart, and the origins of the animatronics. It might finally reveal the full story behind everything that happened.

As a fan, I’m really excited to see that the movie seems like it’s going to stick pretty close to Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. The third game took place in a spooky, haunted house, and Springtrap was the only animatronic threat, and the movie’s mid-credits scene definitely hinted at both of those things being included!

Ultimately, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 mostly sets up the story for the next game. Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 feels essential to understanding what happens after the events of this one.
