The acclaimed comedy *Hacks*, which has won Emmys and is up against *The Studio* and *The Bear*, will end after its fifth season. Actress Hannah Einbinder, who received an Emmy for her performance as Ava Daniels, revealed the news while on the red carpet at the 2025 Emmy Awards. She told E!’s Heather McMahan that filming will begin next week, and while it’s sad to see the show end, she believes it’s the right decision. “It’s good to finish a show when it feels complete, and not drag it on for too long,” she explained.
The news isn’t a complete surprise. After the fourth season ended, creator Jen Einbinder mentioned in an interview with Deadline that they had a planned ending in mind from the beginning. She said they were aiming for a fifth-season finale, but were still working out the details, and that if not five seasons, it would be very close. Now, they’ve decided the timing is right to move forward with that plan.
I was really invested in Ava and Deborah’s journey this season, especially watching them try to launch their talk show. It ended with Deborah in a familiar spot – starting over as the underdog, just like past seasons. Honestly, I was surprised Einbinder even mentioned it tonight! It made me wonder if they should have announced that ending weeks ago, maybe it would have gotten them a few extra Emmy votes. It felt like a bit of a risky move to bring it up during the ceremony.
