Woman convicted after throwing a stick of dynamite into boyfriend’s room while he slept

A woman in New York was found guilty of throwing an explosive into her sleeping boyfriend’s bedroom, causing serious injuries.

Prosecutors have confirmed a case stemming from a March 2024 incident where a disagreement turned into a violent attack.

Boyfriend lost hand after device detonated

Keyonna Waddell, 35, of Deer Park, was convicted by a jury of assault and illegal weapon possession, according to a recent press release.

The situation began with a disagreement inside the victim’s home. The man left, then came back later and went to sleep, thinking things had calmed down.

He was awakened by a hissing noise and found something burning on his bedroom floor. Investigators determined it looked like a stick of dynamite.

Trying to protect himself and his property, the man attempted to disarm the explosive device, but it exploded in his hand.

He was quickly taken to the hospital, and doctors had to amputate the rest of his hand and a portion of his arm.

Prosecutors stated that Waddell had previously threatened the victim with dynamite, indicating a pattern of increasing violence before the incident.

She was arrested the next day and could face up to 25 years in prison. Her sentencing is planned for May 27th.
