Wendy’s hosting ‘Wendy’ lookalike contest with a year’s worth of free burgers for the winner

To celebrate World Redhead Day, Wendy’s is holding a contest where fans who resemble the restaurant’s famous red-haired mascot can win free burgers!

On May 26th, people will gather at Seaport Square in New York City for an event where they’ll dress up as Wendy from the fast-food chain. Participants are encouraged to complete their look with red hair, freckles, pigtails, wigs, or Wendy’s classic blue-and-white collar.

The winner of the contest will get a free Dave’s Single hamburger every week for a year.

The contest will feature three separate rounds throughout the event.

The competition begins with contestants presenting their outfits inspired by Wendy’s. In the second round, participants will read a post written as if it were from Wendy’s social media account, promoting National Hamburger Day on May 28th.

Okay, so we’re getting down to the wire! The last round will cut everyone down to just three to five of us. Then, we have to create and perform our own Wendy’s commercial right there in front of everyone – the audience and the judges. It’s gonna be intense!

The company says the contest is a fun way to celebrate redheads and their vibrant spirit, while also connecting to Wendy’s long history – the brand has been around since 1969.

The Wendy’s look-alike contest is the latest in a growing list of viral promotions from the chain.

In early 2026, Wendy’s launched a limited-time breakfast poutine in Canada, combining classic poutine ingredients with breakfast favorites. They also ran a contest offering one lucky fan a year-long position as their “Chief Tasting Officer” with a $100,000 salary.
