Ubisoft announces $500,000 Assassin’s Creed buried treasure hunt that could take 5 years

To mark the relaunch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Ubisoft is hosting a five-year treasure hunt with a $500,000 prize.

So, I just heard about this awesome thing Ubisoft is doing with Unsolved Hunts! They’ve hidden half a million dollars worth of real treasure somewhere in the Caribbean, inspired by Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed. Basically, it’s a huge treasure hunt, and we, the fans, get to try and find it! I’m already planning my trip…

As a huge Black Flag fan, I was so excited to see the collector’s items! They’re including a really cool crystal skull replica, and even some golden coins – dabloons, they call them – with the game’s logo on them. It’s awesome!

Treasure hunt for Black Flag remake could last five years

This experience is a big, pirate-themed puzzle adventure! Players will start by decoding a message in a bottle and examining an old Caribbean treasure map. They’ll then need to solve 15 puzzles cleverly hidden in letters and historical documents related to the game.

Ultimately, this will reveal the exact spot in the Caribbean where the treasure chest has been hidden.

So, I just found out it costs $35 to join, and the best part is you can do it from anywhere! You don’t even need to have played Black Flag before to get involved. But as a big fan of the game, I’m excited to hear there are tons of little nods and references to Edward Kenway and the whole Assassin’s Creed story – that’s a huge bonus!

The first player to find the correct location will win a trip to the Caribbean to unearth their prize!

The main event starts on November 9, 2026, but if you register now, you’ll receive a bonus puzzle to preview the challenge and get a jump on the first clue, giving you a small advantage.

Finding the treasure won’t be quick or simple. The search could take two to five years, so a new Assassin’s Creed game or another remake might be released before anyone actually finds it.
