The Targaryens Are Back, and So Is House of the Dragon Club

The wait is over: It’s time for hot people fighting on dragonback.

The first two seasons of House of the Dragon built up the long-standing conflict between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who were once friends. Now, season three will finally show the full-scale Targaryen civil war – known as the Dance of the Dragons – and the devastating impact it has on Westeros. With more action comes more complex storylines, including tangled family relationships, long-held secrets, and constantly changing loyalties. It can also be hard to keep track of all the Targaryens with silver hair! To help viewers navigate it all, we’re bringing back our subscriber-only newsletter, House of the Dragon Club.

Each week, the team at Vulture – including writers and editors who are passionate about Fire & Blood as well as newcomers to the show – will dive deep into the latest episode, discussing every detail. They’ll cover everything from remembering which dragon is which and pointing out changes from the books, to explaining the political games in Westeros and analyzing the fashion and relationships, whether it’s in the throne room or on the battlefield.

Season two of House of the Dragon begins airing Sundays on HBO starting June 21st. You’ll receive our newsletter on Mondays with all the latest details after you’ve had time to watch each new episode.

According to critic Roxana Hadadi, the most pressing questions about the show are: first, what happened with Criston Cole’s hairstyle? And second, why does the dragon Sheepstealer look so unpleasant – because in the original stories, that dragon is meant to be quite ugly and ill-tempered.

When will Rhaenyra and Alicent kiss?–Julie Kosin, TV editor

Genevieve Koski, our TV editor, is excited about the return of the HOTD Scorecard and is also really enjoying the Simon Strong reaction GIFs.

Dee Lockett, a culture editor, is excited to see more of the character Ulf as a drunken knight who has a dragon companion. She’s also eager for further development of Queen Helaena and her unsettling ‘dreams’.

Savannah Salazar, an associate editor, is excited to see Rhaenyra receive a sword and is glad that Daeron Targaryen is finally appearing.
