The next installment of The Rocketeer: The Island is coming soon, and it looks like it will be one of the most challenging adventures yet for the hero. The Rocketeer is in a desperate race against time to save Betty, and he’ll have to face the giant Kong to do it.

In the latest issue of IDW Publishing’s The Rocketeer: The Island #3, Betty has been captured and is going to be sacrificed! The Rocketeer must hurry to rescue her and another missing crew member, but his search is complicated by dinosaurs. He’ll get some unexpected help, but it might not be enough – because Kong is on his way!

The Rocketeer, whose real name is Cliff Secord, was first imagined by Dave Stevens and debuted in 1982 in issue #2 of the comic book Starslayer, published by Pacific Comics. Over the years, the character has appeared in various forms, with the 1991 live-action movie featuring Billy Campbell, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton, and Jennifer Connelly being one of the most popular adaptations.

The Rocketeer’s Return, Explained

This February brought a new adventure for the hero, bringing him together with some surprising and famous faces. Besides preparing to meet Kong, he’s recently partnered with characters like Tintin and Snowy, and even the classic sailor, Popeye.

Layman shared how much he enjoyed working on the series, describing it as a delightful experience set in the charming, funny, and action-packed world created by Dave Stevens. He also expressed his gratitude to IDW Publishing, a company he’s worked with on beloved projects, for giving him another chance to have fun and get paid while honoring a comic book hero and world he’s admired for years.

The current story arc of The Rocketeer: The Island ends with its fourth issue on June 24th, but fans won’t have to wait long for more adventures. A new series, created by Gabriel Hardman and Dean Kotz, will hit comic book stores on July 8th. This new series will feature the Rocketeer on a secret mission with the famous model Betty Paige.
