The fans of Euphoria are its most dedicated followers. Even during the show’s long break, the Euphoria subreddit remained active, with members wondering if Zendaya’s Rue, Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie, and Jacob Elordi’s Nate would return to finish their storylines. The head moderator, @your_mind_aches, jokingly changed the subreddit’s icon and header to images from Madame Web because many users had begun to doubt a third season would ever happen. Despite this uncertainty, the community not only maintained their hope but continued to grow, attracting new viewers with the show’s compelling stories, striking visuals, and honest depiction of addiction. After three years of waiting, will Sam Levinson’s conclusion to the series live up to everyone’s expectations?
We spoke to the volunteer moderators of a popular Reddit forum (with over 1.1 million weekly visitors) about their expectations for the final season. You can read the full interview in our TV Club newsletter on Monday, May 4th—subscribe here if you haven’t! For now, here’s what the moderators are hoping to see happen with Euphoria.
What kind of resolution are you hoping for with Rue’s story? And what would truly feel like a satisfying and hopeful outcome for her and the other characters?
Here’s a hopeful outlook for the characters: Rue is doing well in her recovery and living a fulfilling life. Ali is moving forward and either finding a meaningful relationship or pursuing something he loves. Jules is gaining confidence and achieving her goals. Maddy is strong and independent, building her own business with a supportive partner. Cassie is healing from past trauma, leaving a toxic relationship, and finding success. And Lexi, now a successful writer, might find an unexpected connection through a relationship with someone incarcerated, given Fez’s continued storyline.
I didn’t get the excitement around Zendaya at first, since I came of age with Hilary Duff as my Disney star. But after watching her in Euphoria, I was really impressed. The show did a great job of showing how addiction impacts not just the person struggling, but their whole family and friends. It really made me think about how hard it is to love someone with an addiction, and the constant worry and uncertainty that comes with it.
I first became interested in Euphoria after seeing short clips from the first season that showed Rue dealing with addiction and mental health challenges. I started watching it with my mom, and it actually helped us connect. It gave her a better understanding of what I went through as a teenager and why I sometimes behaved in ways that were different from what she expected.
Ideally, I’d love to see Rue truly move on from her past and find peace. It would be fantastic if Nate committed to therapy and worked through his issues, especially those stemming from his family history. I hope Cassie learns to love herself and doesn’t need others’ approval to be happy, and that Jules finds success pursuing her passion for art. Finally, it would be great to see Maddy and Lexi thrive in their chosen careers in the entertainment world.
As a huge fan, what I really want from a final season is a sense of closure. I’m hoping they’ll wrap up all the storylines and give each character a satisfying conclusion to their personal struggles. It would be amazing to see some familiar faces return, and honestly, I’m really invested in seeing Rue and Jules’ relationship explored again – a strong arc for them as a pair would be perfect. The most important thing, though, is having a writing team that gets these characters and their journeys. They need to understand what makes them tick to give them the endings they deserve.
I’m not interested in stories with neatly tied-up happy endings. I prefer endings that feel true to the characters and make viewers think. Shows like House, Barry, and Succession did this well – they offered satisfying moments when appropriate, but also left some characters facing difficult consequences and hinted at future stories. I always crave complete understanding, but the best shows leave me wanting more, not less.
I was an extra on set during the first season, and even then, I could tell how carefully everything was planned and executed. The creators really thought through every detail, both visually and in terms of the show’s overall mood. It was obvious they were making something truly special, even from my limited view behind the scenes.
What I really hope for in the final season is that the characters end up in places that feel true to themselves. For Rue, that means showing a realistic path towards stability or recovery – not a perfect, instant fix, but genuine progress and taking responsibility. For everyone else, I’m less concerned with happy endings and more interested in seeing their storylines come to a satisfying conclusion. I’d like to see character arcs that develop naturally, with real consequences, and relationships that resolve in a meaningful way, not just for the sake of a surprise or shock.
Given that this is Euphoria, I don’t expect a typical, perfectly happy ending. I’m hoping for something more realistic and emotionally complex – an ending that feels complete, like these characters could continue their lives even after the show ends, but with a better understanding of themselves.
I started watching Euphoria at the beginning of the pandemic and was immediately captivated. I connected with the characters and their experiences, and I thought the show was beautifully made with a unique visual style. I especially appreciated how boldly it tackled difficult topics. The cinematography and music were also outstanding.
Ideally, the story would end with Rue choosing to get sober and escaping the dangers of drug use. Ultimately, I just want to see the characters develop and find happiness, though I realize that might be unrealistic.
I first heard about the show Euphoria during a comedy show I was hosting. A comedian noticed a group of eight strikingly fashionable people all wearing purple in the front row and joked that it felt like a scene from the show. That funny comment made me curious, so I decided to watch it. I immediately became fascinated with how it was made – I was constantly using Shazam to identify the cinematographers, directors, editors, and music supervisors, and ended up completely absorbed in Labrinth’s music. Euphoria used the color purple in a really striking way, similar to how Dune later used sepia tones. It was a perfect example of how to grab an audience’s attention from the very beginning and keep them engaged.
I really enjoy watching and analyzing the show, particularly its visual style and how it’s changed over time—from digital to 35mm and 65mm film. What struck me most was how realistically it portrayed complex emotions like addiction, jealousy, and longing. It felt incredibly raw and honest, as if it gave you a clear look at the hidden parts of people’s personalities, but presented in a visually striking and sophisticated way. I even became so engrossed that I started creating detailed color analyses of every frame, tracking the show’s ten-color palette over time—it was either a sign of my deep appreciation or a desperate attempt to understand it all!
Ideally, the ending of Euphoria wouldn’t show everyone magically fixed. Instead, it would quietly demonstrate that people aren’t defined by their past mistakes and that they always have the potential to change and rebuild their lives.
