With the James Bond franchise on hold before its planned reboot, the action film The Mechanic is gaining popularity on streaming services. It’s proving to be a hit for those craving thrilling spy-style action.
The Mechanic film series is a hit with streamers. Currently, the first movie from 2011 is the ninth most-watched film on Paramount+ in the U.S., according to FlixPatrol. The sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection (2016), is also popular, ranking as the ninth most-streamed movie on Amazon Prime Video.
The Mechanic Is the Perfect James Bond Replacement
The Mechanic is a great action series, and it’s everything you’d hope for from a Jason Statham movie. These films don’t shy away from violence and deliver the intense action and tough fights fans expect.
Both The Mechanic and its 2016 sequel did reasonably well in theaters. The first movie made $76.3 million with a $40 million budget, which was a good return. Mechanic: Resurrection performed even better, earning $125 million with the same $40 million budget. However, despite the sequel’s success, there are currently no plans to make a third film.
Denis Villeneuve is currently developing a new direction for the James Bond franchise. While fans await the next 007 adventure, it’s still several years away. In the meantime, many are enjoying the films The Mechanic and Mechanic: Resurrection as a gritty and realistic alternative to more over-the-top spy movies.
Jason Statham Is In the Middle of a Huge Career Renaissance
Jason Statham is an action star who often plays similar roles, but he’s remarkably successful, especially lately. It seems audiences continue to enjoy his signature style, as shown by the popularity of films like The Meg and A Working Man.
Jason Statham has consistently succeeded in the action genre by making films that are exciting but don’t cost a fortune. This strategy has helped him avoid the difficulties many similar action stars are facing, and several of his movies are now being developed into full-fledged franchises. Later this year, he’s scheduled to appear in another high-octane thriller called Mutiny.
Jason Statham remains incredibly popular, with his films – even those from ten years ago – consistently gaining traction on streaming services.
You can watch The Mechanic on Paramount+ and Mechanic: Resurrection on Prime Video.
