I’ve learned that a previously unshared story connected to The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is coming to Webtoon, just before the official streaming release. It sounds like a little extra content for fans before the main event!
Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender will soon be able to enjoy a lesser-known story from the series! The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, created by writer and co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino and artist Irene Koh, is coming to Webtoon. It will be presented in Webtoon’s signature vertical scrolling style.
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars
Picking up right after the end of the TV series, The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars is essentially episode 53, but presented as a comic book. According to Dark Horse Comics, the story follows Korra and Asami as they return from the Spirit World to find Republic City caught up in political trouble and conflict between humans and spirits.
The story continues with a wealthy developer scheming to transform a newly opened spirit portal into an amusement park, which could dangerously disrupt the connection with the spirit world. Meanwhile, a fierce and violent conflict has broken out between rival gangs at the city limits, right where many people have recently sought refuge. Amidst all this chaos, Korra and Asami promise to support each other, but they first need to improve their teamwork and strengthen their relationship.
The Legend of Korra Revisits The Avatar Universe
Following the end of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender in 2008, The Legend of Korra debuted in 2012. This sequel series takes place decades later and centers on Korra, who navigates a world that has changed significantly since the events of the first show.
Set after a period of rapid technological advancement powered by bending, The Legend of Korra told a more sophisticated story than Avatar: The Last Airbender. While the original series focused on a war of conquest by the Fire Nation, The Legend of Korra presented a conflict where both benders and non-benders faced enemies determined to completely change the world.
While it’s great that The Legend of Korra is now on Webtoon, the biggest news for fans this year is the upcoming release of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender – the franchise’s first animated movie. Many fans have already had a sneak peek, as the film has been shown at events in recent weeks.
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars arrives on Webtoon on April 26.
