Texas man sentenced to 45 years after stealing more than 200 LEGO sets in $300k retail theft spree

A man from Texas will spend 45 years in prison for his role in a large-scale theft ring that hit stores in multiple states. Investigators connected him to the stealing of over 200 LEGO sets and more than $300,000 worth of goods.

Winston Love, age 28, has been sentenced to 45 years in prison and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine after being convicted of organized retail theft involving a deadly weapon, the Watauga Police Department announced on June 10th.

Authorities stated that Love stole over $300,000 worth of goods during a series of thefts lasting 50 days in 2025, across North Texas and Oklahoma.

Police say thieves made off with over 200 LEGO sets, about twelve coffee makers, a number of vacuum cleaners, and several PlayStation controllers.

Texas man arrested after alleged LEGO theft from Target

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Love was arrested in October 2025 for reportedly stealing over $1,200 worth of LEGOs from a Target in Watauga.

Police found Love at a home and, after a short confrontation, arrested him, officials said.

Investigators searching the property found a car, over $5,000 in cash, and drugs, according to WFAA.

Investigators determined that Love was linked to thefts across several cities and counties in both Texas and Oklahoma.

Tarrant County prosecutors announced this was the first case tried under a new Texas law targeting organized retail theft, which went into effect on September 1st, 2025.

Detective J. Branscum stated that this incident highlights how serious and dangerous organized retail crime is for our communities.

Look, as someone who spends a lot of time online and sees stuff happen, I really appreciate that they’re still focused on punishing people who keep breaking the rules. It’s good to know they’re trying to keep things safe for everyone – both companies and players like me.

This situation shows LEGO products remain very popular, a trend seen in other news this year. This includes the ongoing legal issues between YouTuber Reckless Ben and LEGO reseller Bricks & Minifigs.
